Q: 10 RMB a month for unlimited incoming calls - worth it?

I just arrived here and my company provided me with a SIM card and a contract with China mobile, whereby I get deducted 10 RMB every month and pay nothing extra on all incoming calls.

I was wondering if that's worth it or not. I'll have a few people calling me here in China.

They also didn't tell me if that applied to international calls or not.

If I want to get rid of this, I assume I have to call 13800138000?

Maybe from your point of view now it is not important or necessary, but I am sure that your company gave it to you so they could get in touch with you as they need it, and canceling it may not be a good idea in their eyes.  For 10 Rmb per month, roughly $ 1.50 US dollars, or the price of two beers, why worry ?.

In regards to making international calls, with a China Mobile SIM Card all you will need to do is to dial 12593, then the country code (001 for USA), then the area code and the phone number wanted, wait for the call to go thru and when you get a reply then talk.  The cost is right under 1 Rmb per minute.

A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
