Q: Anelka in Shanghai - a joke or a good boost for football in China?

Anyone who follows football probably knows about Anelka coming to China for record transfer fee and wage package...

Following that, the Shanghai club then tried to recruit Tigana, a popular French coach, after which...I think a week or two later Tigana was given the boot and had to return to France.

And now they made Anelka, an amazing player who doesn't speak Chinese and doesn't know China, coach.

Is this just another joke for Chinese football?

I think it is good for the game in China to bring big names to the local league, as it promotes brings more excitement and changes the way football is played here in line with the other leagues around the world.

But going by experience from big names coming to the Australian league like Robbie Fowler he was just a dud with a good pay packet but did bring the crowds to the game which is good
