Q: Any good day-trip suggestions from Beijing?

Anything relatively easy to get to and not too far from the city so you can make the return trip in a day.

I would suggest you try one of the more unspoiled parts of the wall. The sections of the wall are usually inside a one day trip distance from the city center. You can try the classic jinshanling to simatai trek on the rather unrestored wall. This trip you can do in a day, but you will probably need to go with a group. I noticed that there was an article about this trip on this page, you can try and check it out.

Another good place to trek the wall on a one day trip could be Mutianyu.

Hope this was helpful!

I recommend going to the village of Cuandixia. It's a small village in the mountains of Mentougou District about 90 km northwest of central Beijing. The village’s main claim to fame is its very well preserved collection of courtyard homes dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as the original Mao propaganda slogans that are still visible on the walls. You can make a day trip out of it or you can stay the night at one of the farmhouses. It's a bit complicated to get to however, so you est follow these instructions:

Take metro line 1 to Pinguoyuan station (苹果园站). From Pingguoyuan station walk west 150 metres to the bus stop. There are two buses a day from here to Cuandixia, one at 07.30 and one at 12.40. There are return buses from Cuandixia to Pingguoyuan at 10.30 and 15.30.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
