Q: Any ideas how to get this money?

I moved back to Canada thinking that I'd be able to withdraw my last bit of money from Unionpay machines here, but lost the goddamn card.

So I have about 10000RMB sitting in my Bank of Hangzhou account.  It's not a huge sum, but not small enough to just leave it.

Any ideas how I can get that money transferred to my Canadian account?  I don't have online banking with that bank.  I do speak Chinese but I don't think I'm fluent enough to navigate the automated phone line, especially on long-distance.

Thanks yall

I don't know, what I would do.

If you have contact with any foreigner in the city, ask her/him to ask at Hangzhou bank.

You could ask for an advice at SAFEA (Foreign Expert Bureau), too. I would.

write yourself a cheque.  --  no cheques?

no card and no online banking...  wow!    request a new card?

got anything to prove the account exists? ask your Canadian bank to do it for you... passport and a statement, maybe.

Agree! PIA, especially from abroad.

Had thing with CMB. They required last year mobile ph. no., and teller told me, Bank will close account as soon as phone no. is no more.

I moved from Henan a month ago, new sim-card and closest CMB is 150km away. However, account is still open, despite I didn't update with new ph. no.

You could do a interbank transfer but you will pay fees. Take your china bank details to your bank and they should know what to do.

this is not a simple situation....  what if you lose your card, in China...sure report it. and get another one at your local branch...  no online banking?   baffles me why no online banking. phone banking is fine, I guess, but like the guy says, not comfortable with it.... I hate it too!!!!!!  hope it works out and that it is true.....    not a situation I will get myself into.

About 8 years ago I also lost my B of C debit card.  At the time I was in China, so went to bank, cancel it and requested a new one.  But alas, would take two days for a new card to be made according to them.  So I asked them to mail it to me when done.

At the time, the bank had as my home address my USA address, so it was sent EMS there and sent back here to me by my brother in law.

Knowing banks in China, I doubt they'll make it easy for you.

The only thing I could suggest is to have someone in China contact the bank for you and ask them if there is a way to do it.

I can help you on this matter but its a bit complicated. It it possible for us to communicate in Skype. My ID is limyaumee1.

By the way, I need more details information.

1) Did you have the bank book?

2) Is it a normal saving account?

3) Did you remember your ATM card number? or have any photo copy?

4) What is the address you registered to bank when you open the account?

5) Did you change your passport after open the account?

When you leave China, you can give the money to your Chinese friends.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
