Q: Anyone divorced their Chinese wife from abroad? (UK)
Bad breakdown of marriage which involved my wife threatening to have me arrested so I couldn't leave the country or 'seen to' by her gangster uncle. Anyone know if I can get a divorce without going to China, not safe for me to return.

No idea, but a call to your embassy in China and possibly the Chinese embassy in the UK would probably get you an answer.
If you have any threatening text messages, wechat conversations etc I'd save them too, any future phone conversations record them, they might be useful if you need to provide evidence of the threat to you.

You might not have a choice because the red book has to be exchanged for another book. I suggest you go to the Chinese embassy, or consulate, and ask them.
Sorry to hear that mate....Fortunately I married mine in Australia .
As for your problem I would ask the Chinese consulate if you can use an agent to represent you in the area you got married in.

If you haven't lived together for 2 years, then you can walk in to the registery office and get a divorce. A quick fact to remember a marriage in China has no affect on anything in the U.K or anywhere else in the world, meaning you could marry in the U.K today if you didn't register in the U.K that you were married before.
I did hear you can make a letter, get it legalized by the Embassy and send her the letter and she can finish the divorce on the Chinese side.
But the 2 year law is real.

In America the laws are different for each state. Nevada divorse 7 days after a marriage is possible.
The most common though is get a residence in Ohio, send the wife to her country, for over 60 days with a cash ticket, not traceable to you, so you can claim she deserted you, file for desertion based on no contact for 60 days and she flies back to the states to a divorce, no alimony, no child support, walk away scott free, also cut off the phones so there in no proof of contact and change email.
Very common practice.
UK probably has some desertion laws with some time frame involved.

You would still have to pay but after a divorce on desertion, the burden of the wife to get more than 25 percent of net after taxes or get alimony or extra funds would be hard to overcome by any lawyer. It sort of caps the lady from bleeding for extras and taking you to court constantly which happens frequently. I had many drivers that worked for me that would request a salary cut and more time off because they did not want the wife getting 25 percent of a 1000 dollar a week salary and would rather make less than work for nothing gained but putting the x in a nicer car.
As always, unintended consequences.
In my native country, for a divorce it matters not where the marriage was entered into, simply if the local requirements are met. Check local rules. Also, was the marriage ever registered outside China, if not, do you need to care? Get a new passport with a new passport number and start over.
BTW, you will love the term "Divorce" sometimes, best in China, 30 minutes you can start your new life, new wife. haha lol
You have get divorced through the courts in China and you have to be present. All property disputes, custody of children and financial disputes must be settled before a judge in China will grant a you a divorce. Forget about her family and the threats. The court does not care about it.
