I bought a coat here once, and some socks. That's it. In my mind, I guess I never really knew where to go or where I could really trust the quality of what I was buying. That and the fact that imported products are crazy expensive, while the fashion here is... bleh. H&M, for instance, has some decent things, but here it's really, really ugly.
So it really confuses friends and family when I go back home and restock on shoes and clothes.
I always do like this, especially for shoes and shirts. My feet are too big, and my are shoulders too broad. And then the lovely sense of style here.....ahem.
Yes...i do that....I like an English brand of shirts and jeans called ''Lee Cooper''........The sad thing is that this brand is not sold in here.........so i buy as much as my bags can hold for the airline weighting...........I like this brand that even my socks are bought from it
Only thing I get from the UK is underwear, no matter how many Xs I get in those they are just the wrong shape in the important areas. All the rest I am happy to get from within China, (just not the markets). However, I am old enough whereby fashion is not important to me.
I find it baffling that major chain stores here like; RTmart, Auchan, Carefour, etc. stock shoes up to size 44 but only carry socks no larger than size 36
I only buy some specialty items back home. However, I do find myself going to the tailor here instead of buying something off the rack.
The last piece of clothing I bought in England was a pork-pie hat a few years back when I was visiting family on holiday. And it was made in China.
I always buy clothes from my home country..ya for winter clothes..i prefer China..
Levis. Here at an outlet store: US$100
In the US at an outlet store: US$40
Same with most of the brands I like. Good (or stuff pretending to be) stuff here is just too expensive.
I may buy an occasional item in China at a tourist or street market like a dyslexic 2-dollar T-shirt that says Abibas instead of Adidas, but it is a rare occasion since I really don't need any more T-shirts.
In Austin earlier this year, I bought 6 pairs of Levis for 30 bucks each at Macys, 6 Hanes sweatshirts for 4 bucks each at WalMart, and a 5-year supply of 100% cotton, Hanes socks, briefs and T-shirts at Target for a pittance of what the equivalent would cost me in China.
For suits (like goomba above), I go to my local tailor. Can't beat the price. Quality? It ain't Savile Row, but for the price, I have no complaints.
Last-minute shiny shoes for show? China. (Although I wish they'd stop fake-brand-tagging the blasted things.) Shoes that will last me 5-to-10 years? The States.
If I want clothes to last the whole year I buy them at home.
Seasonal wear in China basically only lasts the season anyway.
If I want decent quality clothing, I can buy them more cheaply at home. Then I'll also know it will fit, and it can hold up in the washer. Why do people say clothing is cheap in China?
I found clothing expensive in China and hard to find my size, especially shoes. I never found shoes. It's odd that I can buy a made in China item cheaper at home than I can in China, yet still get a bigger size at home. When I came back from China on my first trip, the customs guy asked didn't I buy any clothing. I told him I couldn't find anything that fit, I just took my clothing to visit where it came from.
I cannot wait to go home for Spring Festival just to buy some nice clothes, underwear and shoes. I have no problem with sizes, can always find shoes and clothes here in China but the prices, oh man! I do not like big brands but Zara back home is amazing while in China it is expensive and the style is different, the same for H&M and similar. What I usually do is buy super cheap but trendy clothes that lasts a seasons and then get rid of it. When home, I buy some long lasting products.
Yeah, I had a trip planned, not home but back to the western world, when I lived in China and my shopping list was as long as my arm.
I found the fasions in China to be rather..... repetitive.... and cutesy lace and bows is not my style, so it was almost impossible to find anything I wanted to buy clothes-wise. I liked a lot of the shoes, but a few bad experiences of having shoes fall apart after a few weeks put me off buying shoes in China.
Happily, I live in SE Asia now and have no problem finding plenty of good clothes. I'm developing an addiction!
