I've seen the wikiTravels page, but still not sure what to do. Anyone else in Harbin? Have you tried anything and liked it/disliked it? I'd also enjoy shopping reviews/pointers if you have them.
Shopping is actually quite good. The square where the old Russian church is has a shopping centre underneath it. OMG. Never seen so many shoes in my life. The shops above ground are expensive. Go under ok? Hamamas is a pretty good place to chill out with a coffee and a sandwich. On the corner there at Hamamas is one of the best tended marijuana plantations you're ever likely to see in the middle of a large city. Got photos - hard to believe!
Subway being constructed. Lots of foreigners most of whom are Russian and all of whom are disliked. Taxi drivers are baaaaddd and because they think every foreigner is a Russian they won't stop to pick you up unless you hire a local to wave one down for you.
Then of course there is the beer festival, just finished about 6 weeks ago and then the Ice Expo which is an absolute must see, just once. Temperature around -40 so dress accordingly.
Oh, the tiger park is in Harbin as well.

There are lots of Russian women shopping there, They would be fun to do I am sure. If not you can do the Chinese girls that are there instead. I hear they like ice there so bring a bag with you, it seems they lost the recipe and cannot make their own anymore.
Go to Boxtown and say Hi to Alan (Chinese owner with Irish accent). Good guy and he will treat u well. Enjoy a pint or two there. It's a kool spot.
