13 years 5 weeks ago in Teaching & Learning - China
It seems to me that they often do it during week days, but not during the week-end. However, during holidays, they often put the kids to follow some classes even during the week-end.
Many expect them to learn a musical instrument or the like. If the parents own a business the child once old enough may be expected to work long hours in that business. Children of Chinese parents in Australia on average spend far more time on their studies than the rest of the population. Almost all who can afford it, and the parents work very hard to make this happen, have tutors as well. This effort shows out with the percentage of high achievers academically who are from Chinese origins being largely dispraportionate to the percentage of the population. Many Chinese both in China and abroad work very hard to achieve their goals (or to get enough money to gamble away)
