Since the US election things have gotten a little ....errr .uummm .well lets say heated. You have to question your future direction with plans .
So for example..Taking your family to China for a holiday.
We know how Ferral the Nationalists can get at the hint of something they find not to their taste .
even a phone call from one elected leader to another can set them into a frenzy.
Do you worry about your families safety?

I see the front page wants to talk about Nationalisam but you can't post comments.....Funny that
If I had family in China I'd feel a lot better if everyone had a foreign passport so it would be easy to get on a flight out if things start looking hairy.
Maybe something to think about for those who have kids born in China.
It's a tough call, if we both countries start kicking people out, you would think seats on a plane would fill up fast and you may have to use other measures. If visas are revoked Chinese citizens may not be allowed to leave for tourist or business and this will free up more seats at the last minute. I don't trust the chinese to follow western protocol of giving women and children priority for evacuation.
if the planes are booked, you could be at an airport depending on chinese security for a week with protestors outside.
Land borders might be quicker and then plane in another country.
Ferries or boats may be the way to go and I have 2 on standby just in case. I also have 5 passports other than American but they don't have entry stamps for getting into china but at least the American one want cause contempt when i am trying to get out if i dont show it.
I knew this was coming, so I have food to be a hermit and stay inside 60 days. Trump has already said he hates Americans losing wars and wasting money, so whatever happens want last 60 days. it will be fast, devastating and widespread in a matter of moments. Escalation in days not weeks.
retiredinchina:
the only advantage america would have in this situation is the children of CCP members that would be in school on student visas. Leveraging their safe return for the safe return of foreigners out of China would be an option, but if school is on summer break, the Chinese might not care. I suspect the money will make them back down with Trump because they have more to lose, permanent power, Trump only has 8 years and america is already bankrupt, there is no downside for Trump. He does not care about the press and he has no shame. He wins or everybody loses and goes down with him.
retiredinchina:
Anybody ever taken the Chinese train into Vietnam or Russia at the border crossing? will they recheck all documents at the border or at the final destination?
icnif77:
Only planes have 'check-up at final destination', i.e. 'biometrics'. Not trains!
You can expect docs. check-up at 'last' (exit) and at 'first' (entry) station again or both countries check-up at the same time/station.
I applied online for e-Tourist visa for India last week. You are required to fly-in to some 10 India's airports.
You can't get the same visa, if you train-yourself to India.
However, Chinese check-up will be in HK, before boarding-up the plane and then again after the landing in Delhi.
retiredinchina:
chinese trains go into russia and vietnam on a couple of routes, all the other countries you would have to land cross first and then board their trains.
RandomGuy:
There is a ferry directly to HK airport from Foshan, the pier is a 20 mins drive from my home, this would be my way to go, HK should be a lot safer than on the Mainland protest wise, a few CCP goons here and there, but no massive riots. I would only rush into the airport then take the first flight to anywhere in the EU.
Because let's not fool ourselves, in case of nationalistic riots any Foreigner will become a target, they won't discriminate, Black or White or Arabic, the same, American or German or Nigerian, the same. Remember 2008 when the French screwed up and Caucasians, Africans or Middle-Easterners exiting Carrefour became targets to the mobs.

Russki spy Abel: 'Would it help?' ... in 'Bridge of Spies', 2015.
No, I am not concerned much about political 'discrepancies' between West and China, but as it looks, matter will became hairier.
I don't bother much about long term future. Ever!
In China, I have a lot to think about near term future, as changing of schools - AGAIN! - , and going to vacation (Himachal Pradesh, here I come! hi hi) in the same time, and similar.
I envisioned thou, how would matter with 'foreigners-are-bad' played-out in China. I wouldn't 'run', doesn't matter what.
Chinese in my city are very friendly and curious toward me.
I had 10' discussion with older Chinese farmer-looking man on the bus yesterday. Older couple (and I) were standing, while 'farmer' had his bamboo 'backpack' on the chair beside him.
I asked him to move 'backpack', so I can sit and commented ''meiyou bag on the chair, if other people are standing' - what's the matter with you?'', and he replied 'bu zhi dao'.
His reply gave me new discussion topic: 'waiguoren'....
If I am 'waiguoren' at my reply 'no ming bai', Chinese can also be 'ni shi waiguoren', when they 'bu zhi dao' me.
Half of the bus was cracking-up at our 'convincing each other' discussion, me with Chinese 'fluency' of 10 Chinese words ...., so no, I am not concerned!

AND SO IT BEGINS
If you have your family living with you in China, then you've got more problems to worry about than growing nationalistic sentiment. Seriously, take them out of that cesspool and back to the free world. If you're raising a child in China, I think it's grounds for child abuse. And before I get flak for saying that, I just spent the last seven years there and know damn well that you can only protect your kids so much from that toxic environment. Take them out of there asap, because things are going to come down hard and fast.
Does everyone still remember that the U.S doesn't have the man power, the money, nor the equipment ready to go to war? Hello! We used it all up in Iraq! So of course the economy will save the world when both sides reach a deal, import&exports and a bunch of new fresh policies that the economic world really needs.
Quinn68:
That's why we will have Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, (oh, and let's not forget Taiwan - one China, my ass) as allies in this endeavor. These countries all have a vested interest in seeing the Chinese navy with it's one derelict aircraft carrier turn tail and sail off into oblivion.
ironman510:
Well aren't we forgetting Russia is above and they've got China's back, oh yeah how big is Russia and how much time and effort do they spend on their military ? Japan, Korea, Philippine (this is a joke, right?) Or Taiwan can be measured with a finger and half from a person's hand, now how much space does China & Russia take up if you measure them with your hand? I'm an American and I can tell you we are 100% not ready for such a war even with those tiny finger nail countries offering what little help they can. No no no, there will be no war guys Sorry
retiredinchina:
russia would sit out the whole thing, the top 2 would tear each other up and russia comes out on top. if you can't pick but one side, it's better to stay neutral, a weakened america gives russia more soft power in europe, a weaker china gives russia more soft power in asia, they don't have a down side to being neutral at all.
Shining_brow:
What RiC said - Russia would sit it out in the end. They'll push along with China until it actually gets physical.
Also - Iron - I think you're not quite seeing it how it will probably happen. It won't be the US 'declares war' on China.. it will be Trump telling his military chiefs (and ship captains) to not back down if things get nasty. He'll push ships into 'dangerous' situations, and play chicken with Chinese ships and planes.
Someone will take a shot at someone else... the question will be, who will back down if one or the other tries to negotiate the way out?
If a Chinese military shoots down a US plane (or shop) - will the US allow negotiation to resolve the issue?
If the US shoot down a Chinese military plane, would the Chinese allow negotiations to resolve it?
If there is tit for tat, will there be a way out to stop it escalating?
I see the front page wants to talk about Nationalisam but you can't post comments.....Funny that
If there is war then it will be over quickly. So will all civilized infrastructure. Within a year the human race will die off due to starvation and radiation levels. If it is conventional it still can't last long. I agree that the Russians may sit it out and support nationalist movements in far west China. No war is like the last war. We have already seen what cyber attacks can do to civilian infrastructure. My personal answer to the question: Don't worry, be happy. Relax, nothing is in control. I am okay with traveling back to China. I might be concerned if I had children though.
ironman510:
I have children in China and no we are not worried here, just a normal day and it will stay that way, there will be no war, only a trade war, if that..
Stiggs:
Hopefully it's just a lot of politicians fluffing up their feathers and strutting around like roosters showing off and nothing substantial.
I think it all comes down to Trump not giving a toss about the Chinese idea of 'face'... the question is - how long will China tried to hold onto this idea - especially in the face (ha ha) of war.
It looks very much like the Don is actually trying to force China to give up this cultural relic (well, ok, we all have some idea of 'face', but the way Chinese interpret it now is VASTLY different to what it's supposed to mean!)
Is war likely? Hell yes!
I think we have the two worst heads of state in respect to international (and domestic) politics to be facing off against each other.
philbravery:
I tend to agree with you on this one. China can raise the rage very quickly..and im not meaning piss ant not my president protest marches but full on crush kill destroy anything that is foregin ...then there is the armed forces who are made up of the same kind of people with the same kind of thinking but have guns. What ever happens ...no good will come of it .
Left to his own devices I think he could easily provoke a war, or at least a lot of drama and trouble.
I'm wondering if we're starting to see the beginning of Trump being reined in though.
He's been there about two weeks and already the courts have defied him and put a stop to his Muslim ban, and Microsoft and Amazon, among others have joined the lawsuit against him because it's bad for their business.
People in his own party are looking sideways at him for his defending Putin killing his rivals and saying basically America is just as bad - that isn't helping his credibility at all and must have more people who actually call the shots wondering what they're going to do about the Donald.
Pretty much everything he does has mass protests, international and domestic media are openly mocking him, he's unnerving allies and all this after only two weeks.
If it looks like he'll hurt business who will be the next to try and rein him in? He might not the chance to do too much damage.
cub:
well, if DT is out of the pic then u have VP pence in charge so what u think pence would handle this/? and the courts are blocking the ban only because how the EO is worded right? The safety of the US is above feelings Seriously does people think the current flawed vetting system for refugees is strong tough thorough enough? Wasn't the boston bombers trained in one of these 7 listed countries?
Stiggs:
I don't know about Pence or where the Boston bomber was trained, and I really don't care enough about the immigration thing to start debating it.
What I was wondering is if this is the start of the slippery slope for Trump where enough people lose all confidence in him and it leads to him being impeached or something.
