Any school in China is a good school to begin an "ESL career" with - as long as you don't have full control of your English grammar (I'm supposed to vs I'm suppose to; an ESL career vs a ESL career), your caps are careless (aston, march, just), and punctuation is a nuisance that you can overlook.

Frankly, you can get a good start or a less-than-good start, in that ANY start in China will be looked down upon by future employers in the ESL field in any country other than China.  Don't bet on furthering your career in other countries where the profession (and education, in general) is taken seriously and only professionals need apply to highly competitive and well-paying jobs.

But if your aim is to take a year or two off, make some beer money, hook up with naive Chinese girls, then, by all means, go for it.

Any school can be good just as long as you make it good. It's all up to you how your career goes.......just learn as much as you can from this place and when you move along you can have learned something valuable from this place that you can take to the next.

Check with the dedicated ESL forums, and ask on there...

Be aware that there seems to be a few 'Aston' schools, even up in Dalian!!

I interviewed with them once. They'll offer you TESOL certification classes  in the summer, which is good, but they might place you outside of Dalian in a suburb. There is a good chance you'll also get stuck in a shitty apartment with a roommate.

if you sign with aston , try to get a contract ending in august, starting in middle of school year makes it harder to transition to other schools if you decide to stay for a while.

you may have to give up some holiday pay or part of plane fare for a contract less than one year, i came in april and did 18 months with an end in august to go for universities and other pursuits, i should have done 6 months and left.

once your here , travel around town , be visible and you want need to look for work anymore or send resumes. if your here to enjoy yourself , disregard the last comment. also if you stay a while at aston , can work to your advantage to get to the city you want to work and then leave. aston is currently in about 65 cities or more.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
