Hi All
I am considering a job offer in Changshu and would like to know what the average monthly expenses are for one person in Changshu.
How to find affordable, clean, safe accommodation.
How does lease agreements work?
Interesting places to see. What to do.
Any information would be highly appreciated

ExPatistan for living expenses in different cities (no Changshu, thou!) in China:
Your employer or better, the other people working there should be able to tell you whatever you need to know.
Most jobs in China will have help available for you with things like accommodation, that's assuming they don't already provide it.
The other employees there will often be your best resource, ask for their contact details.
I don’t know changshu but I’ve lived in Suzhou and wuxi before. The price of an apartment will vary depending on the distance from the city centre, like any city I’d imagine between 1200 to 1500 for a studio apartment, 1500 to 1800 for a one bedroom, 1800 to 2500 for a two bedroom, roughly. I paid 2200 a month for a non central two bedroom apartment in wuxi, which is a bigger richer city. If I wanted two bedrooms in wuxi city centre it would be 5000
normal lease in china is like this: sign for 12 months, have to pay three months rent up front. A deposit equal to one month s rent. And agent s fee equal to usually half a month rent but sometimes one month.
the school or business should provide you with help to get an agent. If they do not you might want to think about giving the job a miss. Alternatively if you have a Chinese friend already in the city you could rent an air bnb for awhile then go apartment hunting. Or you rent an air bnb then ask an English speaking person at school/business to help you. Or you can just get an agent to send you photos so you can sign the lease in your home country. This way the school has to help you get agent and you won’t get to look at apartment in person.
for most newbies in china if you’re going to teach,it is better to aim for a job where an apartment is provided and you don’t need to pay any rent
also it could be a great place to live I don’t know. But although it’s close to wuxi Suzhou and Shanghai, there is no fast train to any of them. Could be missing a lot of him home comforts. I tried looking for information but it’s difficult to tell if it’s got some foreign bars restaurant areas city centre. The photos do make it look nice. For me personally, I’m not as adventurous as I used to be, a city any smaller than wuxi is not for me anymore. Unless the salary was really lucrative. Location is everything to the china experience.
dokken:
I forgot monthly expenses.
not including rent, I’d suggest between 2000 and 6000a month. 2000 being modest 3000 to 3500 moderate and above 4000 extravagant. It’s different if you’re in a city like shanghai, where you will be I guess there won’t be as many things to spend money on
i have lived sometimes for less than 1500 a month when I badly needed to save some money for something when I first started out in china
Anywhere between 2,000-20,000 per month depending on your lifestyle. I'd say 5,000 (minus rent), would probably be enough for most single people to have a comfortable life provided you do buy luxury items like, televisions, cars, phones etc... or travel frequently.
If you want all amenmities you might get in the west... It's not unheared of for expats to spend 20,000 a month and more. You can definietely spend money here if you want nice things.
