It should be about US$5,000.  They just want to make sure you can support yourself while you are here.

Do you mean cost? The easiest way is to go online and locate the website for the chinese consulate in the country where you will make your L visa application. I apply in Edinburgh Scotland and this is the associated costs......

I think you have to prove that you have $100 dollars to spend per day for the duration of the new visa. At least that's what it used to be.

In six years and multiple visa's never had to produce anything, I think it depends on where you are. The most recent in May this year I got a 12 month family stay visa, all I had to do was produce a rental agreement on the apartment, never had to prove how I would pay the rent or feed myself. Double check with the visa police and see what they say.

It has been required from me once when I was in-between positions.  They wanted to see a balance of 20,000RMB for a 1 month extension of my L visa.  But this was in Wuhan, the armpit of China.

So far I have been through 3 L visas and 1 F visa, and have never been asked for a bank statement.  And I even extended an L visa once.
Maybe this depends on the country you get the visa in, or your nationality.
I would check the local Chinese consulate website in your country to find out the requirements.

Like 'theDude"and 'MrPopular"  (love the names BTW), I have never been asked for a bank statement. Ive gotten visas (2 L visas and 6 F visas) inside China, in Hong Kong, from San Fran and Houston in the US etc. etc.

Even Visas to Nam and Turkey (5 so far) they never asked for a bank statement. Heck photoshop it, how are they gonna know? What self respecting corrupt bank would reply to an inquiry from the Chinese consulate? Banks dont even answer to their own governments! Smile

If you are married to a citizen you show nothing but a marriage certificate. I've always maintained a job so I've never worried about it even being married to a Chinese woman. I was also offered a one year resident visa for being married by the local PSB but it doesn't give me the right to work legally, "not that I care", but with a wife and child, who needs the hassle.
The last law for the income was in 2008 $3,000USD per month of stay. If your applying in Beijing this will probably happen, if your extending then they usually dont care as long as you have caused no problems.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
