I suppose my question should have read "what's the least friendly city in China" so you already know my answer.
I think it depends on who you interact with. I have recently moved cities and found the people here more friendly. The local people here have been uniformly friendly and curious, but not in an intrusive way that i felt previously. I think everyone will have a different answer to your question. Mine happens to be Wuhan as the most unfriendly city i have been in to date.
For me Beijing has got to be up there with some of the worst. Some of the people are just so rude, even most of the friendly ones are out for gain in some form or another. It's frustrating because after a while it makes you quite guarded.
Hong Kong hands down

you just made yourself an enemy. My favorite city in Asia.

i think its the foreign's there that are rude. i try to ask someone directions and they just blanked me. But i find the locals very nice.
Probably is there are so many people living here already and I heard so many people are flocking here in droves...
I like touring around by myself. I find I meet more people when alone and I can do or go where I want. Beijing was the only place that girls tried to tea scam me, but it was endless. I made one girl walk back to my hotel with me and then said I didn't want to go into each place she suggested. When she claimed that she was tired of walking and then demanded 100Y for walking with me, I told she could * my * if she wanted money. She just started yelling ''Get out of China'' in the middle of the street. Another foreigner came up to me and asked what that was about. I told him, he laughed.
I didn't like BJ, too big, too much traffic, maybe I didn't spend enough time there to get to know it.

Sometimes Ted, what you write makes as little sense as a wumao. You say that you asked a girl to * your *, but then next paragraph you say you don't like BJ.
I'm not sure about the least friendly because I've meet rude people everywhere but I do know which place stood out as being the friendliest: yunnan.
i don't think so . Well most Chinese people ,such as me , wants to one day get to know a friend like you Ted ,
I don't know, but if it's like Shanghai I bet so. Actually the one time I've been to Shanghai was a mixed experience, some people on the train were trash-talking me (or at least laughing at me and talking about me right in front of me, I don't speak Chinese but it did not sound frinedly), and I got the "laowai" BS a lot, but also met some really nice old men and ladies early in the morning. Places like BJ have a lot of arseholes who are (perhaps understandably) tired of arsehole visitors who don't respect the country, but also decent people who can treat you well if you have the good intention. I have no intention to visit there either way, I find people much friendlier in the countryside, like anywhere in the world.
Last time I was in Beijing I never had a problem, in fact one Chinese man was very kind to me. I was there on vacation with a bunch of school mates and we went out partying and another classmate and I decided to stay out. We only went our separate ways for a half hour and decided to meet up at a club.... needless to say he didnt show and I was rather hammered... luckily a random car pulled up and he said he was a taxi so I gave him my hotel card... He drove me there and he obviously saw I was pissed at something and drunk so he left his car on the road on and walked me all the way to the hotel door... I was as gracious as possible in payment to him and could not believe he just left his car chilling in the road on and unlocked... but that is just one man, not a whole city. It was also the middle of winter there so I was extra gracious lol I think it was like negative 20 something lol
