If you are looking to "fight" cancer, then you need more than tea. If you are looking for a healthy beverage that will help lower your risks of cancer, then you need to look at what tea has high levels of antioxidants. Green tea is known for this, but I believe this knowledge is based on the western "tea concept" so it is in comparison with Pickwick Earl Grey and the likes. I think I saw that white tea is the new green tea.

I have a half kilo Nescafe tin that says it is naturally rich on antioxidants, according to my daily intake, I should be able to live forever.  The Chinese definition of tea is just to boil some stuff and drink it, no difference compared to soup. So coffee counts as tea.

Supposedly the fruit soursop (it might be 刺番荔枝 in Chinese?) is great for fighting cancer. As for teas, they have antioxidants, but so does fruit, chocolate and several other things. It's best to change your diet to avoid easily oxidized foods, like burnt food, things high in poly unsaturated fats. Green teas have more antioxidants than black teas.

what exactly are "poly saturated fats"?

That's the problem with research, the more they do the more we understand everything is going to kill us...

Don't get sunburned, you'll get skin cancer they said so everyone now wears sunscreen. Then they found out the sunscreen gives you cancer too.

Eat this to prevent disease X only to find out later that it causes disease Y but is probably loaded with vitamins or something else that's good for you.

The alcohol I drink was bad for me, then good for me, then bad again and now I don't know or even care...actually the amounts I drink it's probably bad for me but then it makes me happy which is good for me too so ...

I say to fuck with it, eat what you want within reason and worry about it later.

@stiggs, a lot of those 'studies' are put forward by the food industry, to deflate negative publicity and confuse everyone. I studied biology, and I can guarantee you that even scientists don't have the time to casually fact-check every published article referencing some study, to find out whether it's legit science or science-astroturfing. But don't give up completely. Take the info with scrutiny, but don't dismiss findings out of hand.

Yup, that's pretty much the approach I've always taken... maybe something in it, maybe not, or not to the extent that it's worth worrying about at least.

And in any case I usually don't care. Bacon is bad for me? Oh well, I hardly ever eat it anyway but when I do I binge on it and enjoy the hell out of it. If it's the bacon that gets me before the beer or the chocolate or the coffee or the red meat or whatever else I eat that could potentially kill me then so be it.

Wow, that's great news. I guess it will be at least a decade before they develop a drug for human use, but far earlier than I had anticipated.

My doctor told me I can't drink green tea anymore because it counters the effects of folic acid absorbtion, which, in turn, counters the effects of the RA medication I am taking. I thought it was bad enough when I was told I can't drink alcohol anymore (also because of the medication), but this news really bummed me out as I have been drinking Chinese green tea for years and absolutely love it. I don't know what to drink now except water.
