We all make jokes about made in China stuff being terrible, but have you ever bought anything that turned out to be good?
When I first came to China, my roommate's girlfriend bought a hairdryer for about 30 RMB. I took it when she left and I still use it today, several years later. We all expected it to die after a week but it still works fine.....although recently it's started randomly switching between hot and cold air.
I thought I'd add my random question for the day.
I always liked my chess set that I bought. I thought it might have fallen apart by now but it's still intact and in one piece just like how I bought it!

He's my best friend too, and I'm glad he's back.
He disappeared three days ago, but back today. Same as Shining, actually...
A small set of 2.5 W Earise (?!?!?) USB speakers I bought at Auchan. 42 RMB Hell yea!
Chinese Army boots.
Bought them in 2008, fully expecting them to fall apart within the year. And I have been everywhere with them: all over China, Puerto Rico, Zion National Park, the Everglades, etc.
a 30 kuai pocket knife bought at one of the underground passage shopping tables set up at random in downtown SZ. Stiletto blade, Wood inlay handle. I totally dig it, and it has been solid and strong for 3+ years.
backpack lasted 3 years. hasee laptop still running strong with no problems (3 years also) the bags are very durable here. my glasses are great.
I bought glasses (400Y ?) , they have plastic lens, but they are great. I have 3 coatings and sun darkening coating.
I paid $650 for the same glasses at home with glass lens but they don't stay clean, actually usually whitish from skin oil. One coating is scratch resistance and my dog (then puppy) chewed my NEW glasses and scratched the coating, not the lens. If I dropped the glasses in gravel, they were covered for replacement, but since my dog chewed them, the optometrist wouldn't cover them ( had 2 weeks), replacement lens cost me $360. I'm never buying glasses at home again.
I now order glasses from China, even a pair of sunglasses, pay $10 for faster shipping and get them in a couple of days.
I think you get what you pay for in China, you buy crap, you get crap. They do make good products, just that they like to cut costs too much. They do good work. I watched stores being redone in wood, very well crafted and quick.

I forgot about my glasses! I love how cheap they are here.
TedDBayer:
As a neccessity they shouldn't be as expensive as they are at home.
A mobile charger at the train station in Guangzhou. Talked him down to forty or forty five RMB. At 26,000 mAh, it's quite a powerhouse. Good for those really long train rides.
I also bought a bunch of hand warmers for 19 to 20, sometimes 25 RMB each. Those are really good in the winter if you live in a house without air conditioning. They smell toxic, though... Oh no.
Then there are the ties I bought on Taobao for only 18 RMB each. Everyone thinks I'm rich when I wear my suit. Ha.
A rice machine that's lasted for three years (durable little fellow)
My guitar! Got for 250 RMB four years ago. It's been dropped repeatedly though despite being dirt cheap still plays ok - though goes out of tune relatively easy.
I really like the Chinese butchers knife I bought a few years ago. It has a nice weight to it.
a 2 kuai hello kitty purse which is great for putting all your loose change into and a cheap teacup set at a flea market for 25 kuai.
Scandinavian:
saw a dude with a hello kitty purse once, it didn't strike me as an awesome thing :)
Fantastic Cardiff Blues rugby shirt on taobao for 85RMB, costs more than 50 quid back home.
