Q: best way to see the west lake in Hangzhou?

The west lake is big and I don’t have loads of time, what’s a good way to see the most of it in one go?

Travel back in time to before it was ruined. If not possible, save your time and money for something less underwhelming.

@Last Targarean   haha, I'm wiling to bet you noticed the date of the question. From your response, you have a message to send by reviving these posts.....? Of course I agree with your answer. Hell, look at Tibet, see how it is ruined by mainlanders.......those 'poor travel' hookers......so-called uni / high school graduates, great education system, errrhhhh?

Interesting. That wasn't my intention but seems appropriate subtext. I was just bored waiting for the little lady while she was shopping with her sisters, found that thread, wanted to warn others lest they get pulled into the West Lake beauty scam.

a good way to see the whole lake is to take a cruise, there are really big boats with music and tea or there are small ones you can rent and paddle yourself.
unspoiled nature you want, this park is where you’ll get it.

The response was for Last Tagarean but I must have accidentally clicked the new post icon. I reposted it and it is in the right order now (above). You mean someone responded before Last Tagarean?

Underwhelming is right.  I lived around 9 months in HZ, never seen why people trip-out on West Lake so much.  It's a regular lake.  Seems to me if you wanna see lakes you should head up north,,, Western BC, Yukon, Alaska,  oh well, any nature is better than no nature (SZ), but West Lake just doesn't have it going on,,, maybe the far north/ northeast reaches that haven't been over-developed yet.  I did like wandering around the street market there on the west side though.

earthizen:

The first time I was there dates back to the last century, at mid-Autumn festival, full moon!

Now, you have to give credit to dalurens' criminal ingenuity. Ohhhh, come, come, come, see the poetic  'three moons in the lake'. Three moons my ass. (opppss, that would make it four).

These are money dogs, robbers, scammers.....they use ALL possible ways to make money.

I just chatted with one of their elites and got one thing confirmed.  Materialism in philosophy, they studied it as early as secondary school starts, and 'advance thoughts of Mao and Deng for those who made it to college. But no Kierkegaard, Descarte, Hegal......just Marx. Holy smoke, I couldn't believe my ears. He also said dalu society was too deeply poisoned by Marxi's useless theory (his exact words) to be detoxed.

From Wiki, "Materialism is a form of philosophical monism which holds that Matter is the fundamental substance in nature, and that all things, including mental aspects and consciousness, are results of material interactions." Can you see the problem? The whole thing is reversed, thoughts come first, then creation. Marx is anti life and nature. No wonder dalurens en masse speaking is so vile, you are right.....beyond vile actually....they are the anti matter, to use a more neutral description......

This is the HZ west lake 'famous three moons in the lake' thingy. They are 2m high and the inside of each is empty. During mid-autumn festivals legend is that the ancients put lanterns inside. Those pagodas each have five holes on them. So the light coming out creates, technically, 15 'moons' on the lake. From faraway, you see three lights. To see those lights casting on the lake you need to take a boat ride to the spot.

During mid-autumn festival, on the faraway shore even if you get the line of vision right ie at the right spot you see nothing (too far) except tens of thousands of zombies, most of which have zero idea what the three moons are about. It is typical dalu zombie 'I have been to HZ's west lake' thing. As so many authentic Chinese have pointed out, they lost it (culture).

Earth-citizen: based on my experience, one would be lucky to even see the zombies through the smog.

@Last Tagarean  Yup, just a traveller on a planetary trip, an earth citizen. I am seriously considering the idea that we knew each other pretty well in some previous lifetimes.

My 2 cents...

HZ and Westlake actually isn't too bad (in comparison with other places)... but it doesn't deserve the hype it gets (certainly now).

And, the hype has made it worse, due to the nongs and zombies thronging the place.

Wandering around the lake at night - after most have gone home - is a nice experience... but certainly no better than most other lakes in cities (except the possible quiet you can sometimes get, depending on which bit you're in).

The hills and fields 10 mins away are also nice (again, sans zombies).

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
