Q: Booked my airfare out of China doodahdoodah...booked my airfare out of China oh doodahday...

Yep.  For the summer holidays.  Booked and paid for.

Anyone else planning on an overseas holiday this summer?  Where to ?

Are you similarly organised?

I want to know how you book an air fare?

When I buy tickets, I am told what the price is. I didn't know that you could book a certain price in advance.crying

Nope, we are discussing a months escape for xmas time. Yeah, xmas in a place where it doesn't equate shopping but equates cookies and food, perhaps some snow, and certainly a good dose of alcohol.

I'm going to Austraila.  Specifically Sydney, Forster, Nambucca Heads, Ocean Shores, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast.  And then the same in reverse.

Have a good time Brian.  Any other Brians in Boise, Idaho?

To book tickets you simply go to the website, search for what you want, and then pay for it with your credit card.  You can even choose the seats you want to sit in.  It's very simple.

Alcohol is excellent at Xmas time, agreed.  And it's also good on Monday afternoon at 8.23.  (Xinjiang time and  Beijing time aren't the same thing.  Yes they are, but not really. It'll be bright sunshine here for another couple of hours yet so hence, it's afternoon.)

cbrian:

I'll be sure to have a good time plus get some needed rest. I'm not sure of other Brians in Boise or Idaho. I haven't met too many teachers from Idaho.

If we our visa application is processed fast and immigration authorities are not too picky, we might make it to Down Under at the start of the Southern Hemisphere's summer  ^^ Operation code "Fush & Shup", and we would start our move by a few days wandering around Smile

royceH:

Fush and chups are only available in The Shaky Isles.

We tried to book a trip with a Chinese travel group to Aust and NZ just last week.  12 days, both countries, food and accom included.  Only Y12,500.  Ridiculously cheap.  Our idea was to stay in Aust at the completion of the thing and find our own way back to China a couple of weeks later.

Would still have been way cheaper than doing the whole thing on our own.

However, they said no.  No foreigners were welcome.  We put forward our case of discrimination and they said bad luck, no foreigners and they don't care about discrimination.

Why do you think they don't allow foreigners?  I can guess...

You mean you're moving to NZ, Doc?

We visited the North Island in February. We felt in love with it and its people. We believe we have honest chances to fit-in. So we are about to apply for residency and see if they want us. When we visited, we paid 9000 RMB each for the air ticket. Traveling there was not much more expensive than in China, using bus and guesthouses.

I lived in the Sth Island for the best part of a year when I was a young bloke and I still have great memories of that time.  Kiwis are terrific....straightforward and welcoming.  No BS from them, ever.  Very friendly people.

Good luck with your application but don't just jump into a Nth Is way of thinking.  The Sth Is beats it hands down.  Christchurch is beautiful, although they've lost a lot of it due the earthquakes in recent times.  Dunedin was where I spent most of my time there and it's a little part of Scotland far far away.  I loved it there.

Yup, going to the Philippines to check out some real estate build my villa and a permanent exit from China... can't wait for Summer!

Life getting you down in China? Polluted skies, unfriendly stares? Crap all over the beaches? No I don't mean the people...

Then escape to a tropical paradise... any time of the year! They want your tourism, they give you visas and you can even live there permanently with a decent investment. Unlike SOME OTHER country I know...

It's going to be great! I can't wait!

Hotwater:

Interesting way of looking at it and for a lot of points I'd agree with you but my understanding of the Philippines is that a lot of it just ain't safe.

I want to finish up in The Philippines.  My Chinese wife doesn't like the idea because she believes the locals don't like Chinese ppl.  She's probably right but I'd still like to live there.

I'd like to buy a simple place near the sea, not a lot of ppl, places to eat and drink and have a bet on the races.  Engage in intelligent English conversation.

Operated\ a small, simple business.  But I guess this just gets chucked into to 'dream on' basket...

@Hotwater - it depends which part you to go. Coron, Palawan is VERY safe. Just a bunch of towns folk and some Filipino Navy. Go running around in the alley in Manila alone at midnight... well... you asked for it...

royceH - I went with my wife last year and they seemed polite and kind to her. She never mentioned ANYONE being rude at all. In fact, I think they were a little more polite to her than myself.

It's just all media fed garbage. Chinese think that because of the media but they are wrong... most Filipinos don't give a damn about the island disputes. They are just happy to see tourists and develop their economy. At least in Palawan, where I visited. Take advantage of it soon dude, because once the media dies down, Chinese are going to be buying up real estate there in droves. The Koreans and Japanese have already started... if the Chinese catch on... it is going to sky rocket... and I assume that will happen in 5-10.

I agree with Robk about Filipino treatment of Chinese.  Me and my Chinese gf have visited the Phils during the previous two Spring Festivals, and never had an issue with treatment from the locals, even when she busts out some hardcore beach towel/sandals/trinkets bargaining skills LOL.

I'll be in beautiful Vancouver on June 16th. Bring it on!

royceH:

What kind of impact have the Chinese made on Vancouver?  I've read that Chinese make up 28% of the population there.

Most of the Chinese population are gathered in a city named Richmond. They are evident in the rest of the lower mainland but are as friendly and mannerly as local Vancouverites. Spitting and litter is simply not tolerated.

I am looking forward to a much deserved holiday in the middle of July for 2 weeks but am still undecided where to go but have narrowed it down to three countries and I will visit one of them, I have Auckland (NZ), Sydney (Aus) or Vancouver (Can).

Any recommendations as I just want to go somewhere and chill as a solo traveller, love greenery, parks etc, breathable air, eat good food an added bonus would be meeting friendly natives.

Anyone think which country would be pretty cool to visit over the summer and isn't too expensive?

DrMonkey:

Auckland, enjoy the parks and then head to the beach at Waitakere, if you can put your hands on a car :) You can visit several islands from Auckland. Thanks me later ^^

No brainer...go to Sydney.  That's Sydney Central and on to the Eastern Beaches...I recommend Coogee.

Oh..not expensive...Hmmm....Bad luck.  You can't think of Sydney then.

Rather than the good Dr's choice of Auckland, consider Dunedin in New Zealand.  And you will thank me later!

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
