Q: Can I take my required documents back?

Hi. Can i take my required documents back after I finish my contract? They say the government took all of my documents during registration including my authenticated diplomas, my country's police clearance and all.

Which company is that it? It would be helpful for others to know about it and avoid it in the future.

As Icniff told you already, such thing is not possible. They are lying you through their teeths and I know for sure, that Chinese employers have no problem with that. It's a sport and they need to keep it up, practicing and fine tuning their skills to cheating and stealling as in the face of the Government's officials as possible. The better they double blind them, the better thieves they are and the victims flow red blood in and out. Next, chop off, next chop off, next chop off. It's a slaughter after all.

So, your employer must keep your documents, more than probable becuase they want to make you leave by the end of your contract. Again, it will be helpful to know which that company is for future prospective employee.

About SAFEA, it might be useful and it might not as well. It comes to you to decice whether to take the risk or not. If you are a native one, SAFEA is the answer; if you are not, then the same might rather be your sorrow.

By the time Icniff used to request for the SAFEA's help, non-native teachers of English were still granted that help. Hence, Icniff is the example. He today teaches in Turquie. Many things have changed since he left. Today, SAFEA is a risk to non-natives, no matter how their employers illegally employed and abused them. The one to pay is the non-native teacher. The employers know it and are so comfortable with that.

I hope you will get back your doccuments, though. It's way too serious to let them go away with such excuses. Let us know about the outcome of your retrieving these important doccuments.

That is most likely lie! Government doesn't take and keep originals!

OK, if I would be you, I would say once: 'Return my original documents immediately!'

If 'no' return happened in one week time, I would say: "Let me call SAFEA and ask them for help!"

SAFEA is Foreign Expert Bureau, which approved your Working permit and your statement to call SAFEA should be a bluff/scare tactic.

When, I mentioned SAFEA at any school during my tenure in China, my demands (promised in the Contract) got fulfilled ASAP.

Now, if you still won't get back your original documents, you can enter in search above 'safea' and you will get weblink with Provincial SAFEA's addresses and phone numbers all around China.

If you will dial them, you will most likely encounter Chinese English speaking agent who will/should put your employer in order after one phone call!

Good luck!
