Q: Can the residence permit be expedited?

My school basically screwed me and left everything until the last minute. I leave for a 2 week vacation to the States on the 14th, which is the day that the residence permit is supposed to come back. The Shanghai Exit Entry Bureau opens at 9am, my flight is at 10:15am.
Anybody ever had their residence permit expedited? If I can't get the permit processed do you have any suggestions? I am not sure the 2 weeks I am home is enough time to apply for another Z visa.

How very screwed am I?

**** Just had a trip to the Shanghai Exit and Entry Bureau

If you find yourself in the same position as me, there are a couple of things the chief suggested.

1. There is an option to ask for express delivery. Sometimes (he said usually) the visa is then finished the day before in the afternoon so that it can be delivered, possibly on that earlier day. For example; the receipt for my residence permit would have stated that it would be back on the 14th if I picked it up myself, however processing would have been finished by the afternoon of the 13th in order to mail the passport on the 14th. So there would be a chance that the passport would go out on the 13th if it was finished early enough. Since this option wasn't a 100% sure thing, and my ticket would have been canceled if I missed my flight the next morning, I opted for option 2.

2. If your residence permit has expired recently and you plan to return to China within 3 months of the expiry, you can come back on a tourist visa and still have your residence permit renewed with no issue. In fact they said you could come back on any visa but that it's easiest to get a tourist visa.

I hope that helps anyone going through a similar situation.

I would never buy ticket to anywhere till I don't have cert. I can pick-up my passport in 3-5 business days with new 1-year RP.

If you act the same you won't be screwed ..... everything else you opt to being foked!

Sorry, ....  .... I am not!

Where are you getting a new RP from? I thought you'd had your work permit turned down?

Nothing was turned down. Public Schools which I fancy must respect/oblige new regulations and I am Non. In real, nobody knows what can you do. Nobody even wants to ask SAFEA about it.

At 30-days RP extension at the end of the Contract, I got foked by local cops (I guess!). I got 15-days Humanitarian extension and cops promise that PSB in new city can get another 15-days and then I exited .... few days in HK and few days in Camden were nice and then I got offer from Vladistan ... we'll see what next. It's just freezing Moscow holds me back.

Still seeking 5k RMB flight refund from last School in China. After I sort that out, I'll write warning on School here.

Hope that you have a ticked that can be rescheduled, because they don't do rush jobs on the RP.

Wouldn't they have your passport at the psb? They put the RP in it.. if so you can't go home unless you can change your ticket.

That sucks man, hope it works out. If the school has decent relations with the PSB there's a chance they may be able to ask them to speed it up.

You'll have to fork over the money for a "change of date " fee for that plane ticket, I know it sucks but gotta pay that fee. This is the busy season at the PSB and they won't rush it. Don't be pissed at your school because that is soooo China for you, and think about your job too. Just get a Starbucks coffee and change the ticket date. Everyone gets "China'd" once or twice a year.

For emergencies like medical and funerals, you can get them to release it early if the school has a good relationship, but in a big city like Shanghai, probably not going to happen. We had a teacher get hers back a week early in Jinan for a funeral last summer.

For everyone, I know many who made this mistake, never book your flight until you get your visa in hand. You should all understand Chinese culture by now.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
