No, I never really liked working from home.

I never seem to get things done, too many distractions and home is supposed to be a place where you relax, I don't like work tainting my sanctuary. 

I have run my own company from home for the last 24 years and I would not work any other way. You do need to be strongly self-disciplined though. Set aside time and an area of home solely for work and if it is work time then work. Have a separate phone only to be used as the business phone. Have letterheads already available on your computer and make sure they are professional. When you need to send printed documents make sure they are done on high quality paper, doing them on 80gm copier paper looks cheap and makes your company look cheap. Advertise continually for the first few years in relevant places, and be honest in your advertising. Yes it is going to cost money, but do not cut corners. Prepare a proper business plan and cash flow forecasts and stick to them. Do not even think about stealing your employers customers, if you start with that sort of mentality you are doomed to failure.

I love working at home. I get so much done without sundry clowns bothering me with their asinine problems.

As mentioned, you do have to be disciplined. I go hard until need a break, however long that may be then maybe have a cuppa and a bikkie on the balcony, read a book, rock out on my sweet Stratocaster or stroll into the village for a jian dui. Life's a peach.

Its possible - but it needs strong personal discipline and a designated place/room to make your "office".

As silly as it sounds, you need to set-out specific 'work hours' and stick to that commitment.
