I think life for the elderly in China is generally not too bad. I like the social aspect of it. They are always out dancing on the pavement or playing chess in the park or just sitting watching the grandkids at the playground while chatting to the other old folk. I'd much rather do that than sit by myself watching TV all day, which is the direction we're going in the west. However, there are of course negatives. They get very little support financially so are almost entirely reliant on their children for support. Also Chinese health care leaves a lot to be desired which is something you need more when old.
This is all for an old Chinese person. I wouldn't like to be an old foreigner here. It would be difficult to include yourself in the positives I've mentioned above, but the negatives would still apply. Living like here is difficult, just doing everyday simple things can be like banging your head against a brick wall. I don't think I'd have the patience or desire for that when old.

Usually the elder people living in urban areas are better than those in suburban. The pensions receiving from government for citizens are times higher than those in the countryside. Some in the countryside doesn't have any protection at all.
