Q: Is cheap rice and honey fake???

Hello,

I watched a few YouTube videos where I learned that most of the honey and some of the rice in China is artificial. I have been to the Carrefour, Tesco, and a few other places but I can't tell which brand is authenticate. Should I just by the most expensive brand which would be ridiculous if it is not real like the cheaper ones? Also, I bought a huge bag of Jasmine long grain rice from Taobao for 32rmb but I am skeptical about it's authenticity as well because I thought it was a little too cheap. Does price really determine the authenticity of products here because according to the YouTube videos that I watched, it does?

Real rice has a natural fragrance to it so quite a few think if you smell the fragrance the rice is real.  Too bad, the criminals are also aware of that. They eat rice themselves!

"The “rice” is made by mixing potatoes, sweet potatoes and plastic. The potatoes are first formed into the shape of rice grains. Industrial synthetic resins are then added to the mix. The rice reportedly stays hard even after being cooked  … About 300,000 people were injured and at least six infants died in 2008 when Chinese milk and infant formula was found to be adulterated with melamine, which was thought to help the milk pass nutrition tests.

Later that year, melamine was also discovered in Chinese eggs.......

According to the Korean Times, this food fraud is being created using a mixture of potatoes, sweet potatoes, and synthetic resin (plastic). These ingredients are mixed together and formed into “grains” which very closely resemble the appearance of actual grains of rice. The rice substitute is then sprayed with a fragrance to mimic the smell of Wuchang rice, making it difficult to decipher between the two versions.

As you would expect, consuming this “plastic rice” is extremely harmful and toxic to one’s health, and is causing quite an uproar. One Chinese official warned that eating three bowls of this man-made rice would be equivalent to ingesting one plastic bag."  https://www.snopes.com/plastic-rice-from-china/

Price is not an absolute indicator because if you can figure that out so can criminals.  It works with cheapo fake Rolex watches which normally sell for rmb 250 each, or less (cost less than usd 4.5 at factory selling level btw) with vanity driven people, though.

I am told Taobao is filled with fake stuffs and Jing Dong (jd.com) is better.  As usual, the big supermarkets stores are always a better bet.

It's doubtful it's fake but surely someone is doing it. The shops want you to come back to buy more so it is more likely to be low quality than fake.

The honey is probably legit, just watered down. A lot.

Fake rice? What could you fake it with that would be cheaper?

That said, i remember a couple of years ago some people in this town were busted for selling fake eggs. How you would fake an egg is beyond me. Apparently they looked and cooked just lime eggs (according to wechat gossip).

They're adding white sugar to honey ... a lot!

Fake rice unproven.

https://www.snopes.com/plastic-rice-from-china/

There was a story about plastic rice being exported to Nigeria. Cant recall if that was debunked.

Plenty of copy beer and whisky tho. Police are starting to inspect bars and shops for that.

Now I see clearly that you're 'fake'. Artificial is not interchangeable with fake.

made or produced by human beings rather than occurring naturally, especially as a copy of something natural.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
