Q: China a land of opportunity?

Just watched a news clip about the new crack down on illegal immigrants and the main question was whether the so many immigrants meant china was the new land of opportunity...is it?

Foreigners who recognize that China is in a very special transition stage in which a vast range of opportunities is available to them, will profit from the transition.China, unlike the United States, is not known as “The Land of Opportunity”, and success has not been defined.

Many countries have immigrants. While China does have many immigrants, most of them are temporary. They come for business, but leave eventually. As for a land of opportunity, it depends on who you're speaking of. There are a lot of jobs to teach English, for relatively high pay and few hours (depending on the job), that have few requirements. It's a great opportunity to come to China to learn about the culture, eat the food, etc. For people from poorer countries, there may also be more opportunities in China. However, for the average Joe, I'd say there isn't much. Unless you're here to do serious business, or you work in a field that the locals cannot do as well as a foreigner, then there are some opportunities, but not enough to be called a "land of opportunity."

I read that there are 580,000 foreigners living in China. Canada takes in 250,000 each year that are legal immigrants. I didn't look up any USA figures, so where is the new land of opportunity? China?
