After spending a few great days in Hong Kong I have found out how easy it is to spot the mainlanders.
They cut in line, have no regard for others, spit on the street and are just generally rude.
It's funny how you get used to it in China, but seeing such a start contrast between manners here, it has become obvious what all the fuss is about (the Locust song).
Now there is outrage at letting some mainland vehicles access to Hong Kong. I think this is a disaster waiting to happen.
Are Hong Kongers justified in their disgust over the behavour and manners of their mainland visitors? Can you imagine what would become of HK if mainlanders were allowed to come here with more ease and stay?
At the same time do you think HK'ers are elitist? Not just with mainlanders but also with Philipino people?
I think it's a bit of both. I think the people of Hong Kong have the right to complain to a certain degree. After all, the mainlanders' behavior is rude, but their government and laws allow them to come into Hong Kong. It's even more rude to sing the locust song to them. Despite the mainlanders' behavior, they're not really doing it on purpose, they just haven't learned how to act properly.
Hong Kongers are also elitest because they think they're better than the mainlanders and other people they see as "below them." Comparing people to locusts? Really? If the people of Hong Kong had never said a word, had never done anything wrong, ok, maybe they'd have a point. But to do those kinds of things makes them just as bad, if not worse.
They are very elitist. But, in the case of the locust song and such they're correct.

However, that was in response to comments made by that idiot "professor" who called them bastards and such on TV.

Ok, but an eye for an eye doesn't make them better people.
HK people are elitest (not to be painting everyone with the same brush). Especially with Philipinos. Even mainland people look down on them.
i think developed countries and areas's people both have some superiority feeling. like some western look down easterner, some sourth korea and japanese look up down chinese, and some chinese look down south-east asian people. it is reality.
but people should turn this superiority into racist. Hong Kong citizen 's personal behavior quality definitely better than normal mainland people. because they have the best education and political system in the world. so i think they should be more tolerant. just recently there some argument between mainland visitors and Hong Kong people, and a local newspaper even said the mainland visitor are bugs and should be throw out Hong Kong city. that is totally wrong! this stupit comments will get any good results but made more misunderstands between both sides.
