Q: Do Chinese boyfriends really obey the every whim of their gfs?

In a fit of semi-jest, semi-frustration, my gf complained that I didn't do as much as a Chinese boyfriend would. I think the problem stems from the fact that I say 'no' to what I consider unnecessary and excessive demands on my part. She's grown used to it, but it really got me thinking about exactly how much Chinese guys put up with. Is this the norm? Are they really that slavish? Do they really obey the every whim of their princesses?

Most of the guys I see around here are holding their girlfriend's/wife's hand with one hand, and holding their purse and shopping bags with the other.  I think my gf knows better than to even ask this of me

mikael84:

I don't understand peoples obsession here with the purse/bag holding.

When ever we go out grocery shopping, I carry the bags home. I also did this with girlfriends from my own country/sisters/mother.

When we go out shopping, I carry the bags, no matter if it is mine or hers. If she asks me to carry her bag while she is shopping, I do that.

Why wouldn't I? I am not whipped in any sense, but I have no problem with this.

She does the cooking, I do the "heavy" lifting :)

Gaohao:

I think the purse holding thing is more to do with avoiding bag snatchers than as some kind of common courtesy amongst couples. I've heard plenty of bag snatching stories, even where someone on the back of a motorbike whipped off a girl's hand with a machete just to get her purse. Bit over the top for some lipstick and a Maxi-pad.

My boyfriend is Chinese. He actually is not that into carrying my bag all the time but he does so from time to time. If he notices that I'm too hot with my bag on or that it's particularly heavy or that it's uncomfortable he will take it and carry it for me. I think it's a nice gesture: attentive, considerate and caring. Nothing more than  this.

My guess is that since the wife and GF take the boys salary, by holding her purse he gets a modicum of control over his finances...?

giadrosich:

Never thought of that, but ain't it the truth! wink

Lets put it this way. She might need help, yes we can help. She might need something, yes maybe we can get her what she need... But has a couple. Doing things like one and/or to one another. At the end of the day it must work both ways and in no way you should allow for this behavior. It will be a rock in your shoe if you guys decide to go ahead with your relationship. If she understands it , great. If not... tough shit. Chose another one. I'll take the chance of saying this without knowing anything of your relationship... Tell her: "the other girls also do things that you don't do" (take it any sense you want). Or simple as a farewell answer: "Babe slavery time is over. Get a dog". surprise

My girl is wrapped around my finger.  All this talk about controlling Chinese women is funny for me.

Yes, it is a new era, todays chinese boys respect their girlfriend/wife the most in the whole world.

(Those born from 1980, the rest not so)

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
