Know it or not, you’re already paying sales tax on everything you buy; the tax is included in the price. The income tax you pay to the Chinese government will already be taken out of your salary before you receive it. Depending upon your home country and how much you make, you may or may not have to pay taxes back home while living abroad. This can be a complicated situation and is best discussed with an accountant from your homeland.
Foreigners will also have to start paying social security tax in China when a new law comes into effect this July. So if you have a work permit, yes, you'll be paying real taxes directly to the Chinese government.
You are not paying sales tax unless you ask for an official receipt.
You are still responsible for income tax in your home country.
