Q: Do Springtime sand/dust storms still happen in Beijing?

I'd always heard about the dust storms that cover Beijing in the springtime, but last spring there didn't seem to be a whole lot of sand/dust -- just the same ol' air pollution awesomeness. Does Beijing still get these springtime storms or is that a thing of the past? I heard something last year about the gov't planting hundreds of acres of trees outside the city to stop the storms. is that true?

Yes, it is true! You are gonna have to excuse the above he can't read well. I got a mask to protect myself against the sand/dust storms that come out during spring time. The pollution is bad enough but then you add that sandstorm and it's like hell. Kind of reminds me of Dubai a bit. They have been planting trees and although I was unaware they were doing it for the storms I knew they planted trees to cut down on the pollution...lol!
