With teh bird flu around, do you still eat chicken or try to avoid eating it?
> EDIT: About cooking the meat well, has it been confirmed that it will definitely get rid of the virus? There was an article some tiem ago suggesting that reaching a certain heating point while cooking the meat or the eggs will kill the virus, but the article also stated that researchers didn't fully understand how the virus operates. Have there been any updates?
I still eat it, much to the chagrin of my gf....who now refuses to eat chicken, pork, or lamb. Waiting for the beef scandal next, she'll be a vegan before long. I should clarify, that I usually only eat chicken at non-Chinese restaurants....McDonalds typically, or maybe my friend's Taiwanese Chicken Hero shop.
Of course. Bird flu is the least of your problems, at least you can cook away the flu.

Re your edit. A researcher that "doesn't understand how the virus operates" should go sit in the corner and keep quiet.
For hospital grade sterilization, 15 mins at 120C degrees will kill anything. As a lot of Chinese cooking is boiling and steaming the temperature never gets above 100C, so longer time would be required, Things that are fried would be able to reach much higher temperatures. Hospitals have way higher requirements than what you would need to kill a virus. Virus dies of at 70C, so unless you are into Chicken-Sushi you should be fine.
Be much much more concerned about all the growth hormone in the Chicken that causes hormonal disturbances in you, or the antibiotics that helps bacteria to become resistant to the drugs, so in the future people will die of simple infections because treatment is no longer possible (biggest health risk facing the population of the planet according to some sources as it would set the world back to before the invention of penicillin, an invention that almost instantly doubled life expectancy)
Yes, I have no problems with it. There are many other higher risk activities associated with daily lifestyle in China.
I try to avoid eating any meat here from street vendors and smaller restaurants. Not so much for the bird flu reason, but because of all the reports I hear about rat meat being used in its place. Nicer restaurants and Western-run places though, sure!
My meat habits have not changed. Just don't eat undercooked meat, and you'll be just fine.
Yes, just purchased some yesterday at Wal-mart. I don't eat it at restaurants or street vendors it may not be cooked well.
I've been eating lately at BK, KFC and Mcdonalds.....doesn't bother me one bit. I also eat chicken at restaurants.

but do you have access to web sites that are allowed to write about food safety ?

I still eat it as long as it's well cooked. I heard it's only dangerous if you have contact with live chickens.
I think it would be hilarious if chickens could sneeze! Or at least if they can already, then in a way that we would know they were sneezing. Could you imagine the public reaction to sneezing chickens?
I eat it everyday...at home or Chinese restaurants or KFC.
I don't eat red meat so I have few options as it is...besides as others have said it is only live chickens you need to worry about. It took 3 weeks to convince my GF it was fine to eat...people here will believe anything regardless of science.
They will never take my chicken. Never. Every day, all day, KFC, at home, anywhere. Chicken.
