Q: Does anyone have any tips for Luoyang during the first week of October?

I just bought a train ticket to Luoyang on a whim, primarily because there were few other cheap train tickets left that were heading out of Beijing. Is anyone going or does anyone have any good travel tips for while I'm out there? I'd prefer more outdoorsy things but I do like the historical sites, which is one of the things that attracted me to there.

I've just arrived in China and my Mandarin is very weak, which means I'll be on a low budget, trying to avoid the major crowds of the holiday (if that's even possible) and looking for places that will require minimal dependency on my language abilities (i.e. having to ask for directions). Any hostel and cheap restaurant recommendations would be more than welcome as well. If anyone else is heading out I'd be happy to have someone to hike around with.

Thanks!

I have a friend, Sokie, living in Luoyang.  Her English is excellent and she's native Chinese.  She knows the area well and now she's telling me, "I can speak Cantonese too."  Here is her QQ number 1746461463 and her MSN is SokieLi@hotmail.com. She said she would be happy to be your travel guide if you contact her.  Good luck.

Thanks for the offered help! Unfortunately I backed out of the trip when I found all of the hostels in the area sold out, and the only remaining train tickets back were 13h standing for 300 yuan. Maybe I'll try again in January!

Oh, I see. You are welcome anytime. In January, if I am not here, I will ask people who live here to help you. I will go back to the south for winter holiday.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
