A friend of mine filled out an application here on eChinacities for Brown's Hotel in London, England. In a few hours she was promised a job. They are willing to pay her flight and visa costs and pay her 3500 British POUNDS per month. When she told them she can't start till July they agreed immediately and sent a revised contract for her to sign. One of my friends in Scotland says, " that salary is way to high for a receptionist". I called the hotel's number on listed on their website and the girl there told me the contact email is wrong. My friend also filled out an application here for The OXford Hotel. They are using using the same "Interview Form" with the same typos. Is anyone aware of a scam that is currently ongoing with these hotels? IT IS A SCAM.

That's way too high for the UK, even for London where salaries tend to be higher. I'd tell your friend to ignore them.
It is a scam and has been reported as such at http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/ as requested by the REAL Brown's Hotel. Thank you MissA for caring enough to take the time to help. You are right Sokie and thanks for your input.

So...do you always go around posting questions and then answering them yourself? Um...and if you found out the answer after you posted the question, why didn't you take the time to look it up before you posted the question? Just wondering.

As we say in The States...Duh! If you bother to look you'll see I rarely post here at all. Kind of a thoughtless remark. And I UPDATED the post so people would be aware that it is indeed a scam. Duh!
So what's the scam?
Do they ask money?

Could it be they're trying to lure young Chinese girls into the vast London/New york sex industry.
UK?US (take your pick) border agency chappy -
" Why have you come to BritainUSA?"
Gullable young girl -
"To work as a highly paid hotel receptionist in a London/New York Hotel"
Chappy-
Do you have a person we can call who will verify this? chappy rings number.
Hotel person -

Chappy -

Hotel person -

Hello, I'm the charming, beautiful young chinese girl you employed sight unseen and without an interview to work in your hotel.
Hotel person -
Wonderful darling/cuty - You can start right now, get your clothes off.
Ring any bells, if not why not. Who's 'cheating' who here? (a reference to that other post on cheating chinese.)

Thanks for caring and you have stated the dangers very well.
I agree with everyone here, that salary is incredibly high!
Old adage, if something appears too good to be true, it usually isn't.
Is your friend a single female by any chance? There is a scam where they trick foreigners into coming to UK then by using threats of deportation, prison and outright violence force the girls to become prostitutes.
the salary is 3 times more than what the average person earns, lesson number 1 is read the contract before you decide to sign it, if it seems to good to be true it probably is too good to be true, dont be blinded by the salary use your common sense read the contract before you sign it even if you are exited about going abroad its not a fairy tale

That's 2 years old 'news'. Did they do it again?
You're 'SFTU', digging in well aged 'manure'.
It is a scam indeed! Just tell your friend to run away and forget about it. I've got these sort of offers with high paying and when I made my homeworks, I found out the so called employers are scammers. Do not let your friend fall so naive and when there, find out that is a victim of let to know what misery. If your friend falls for this offer, then it is because of greediness and so stupidity. Common sense and self awareness is very much required when you're dealing with these issues.
