My weight seems to fluctuate by 2kgs since being here and I constantly have people to remind me of this. One week I am told "ni shoule ma?" (have you lost weight) and the next "ni pangle ma" (have you put on weight). I generally eat well, but I think late-evening dinners and too much rice may be the culprits.

My weight fluctuates as well. i lost up to 4 Kg last year. this was due more to the excessive heat in summer which causes me to lose my appetite. I always try to put on 1kg coming into winter. But i am not obsessive about it. Thankfully only my family comment but it was more due to alarm than anything else. I know working in a training school means meals are often eaten quite late.
I like to eat alot but I also like to run but the first time I was in China I was here for 4 months and I lost 30 lbs.... I dont know if this will happen again but I am hoping so lol
I find eating here very difficult to be honest. I'm not a good cook, but i try my best to sustain myself but I find I'm either eating too healthy (if that's posible) - literally just living off fruit or it's way too carb heavy, way too much rice, noodles, bread. Sometimes too much dairy or oats/wheat. All safe foods that I know doesn't take a masterchef to prepare but isn't good for me. I can't comment on the weight as much as I don't weigh myself but sometimes I feel quite slight and gaunt and other times stupidly bloated and thick/heavy. Doesn't help I've got to work my meals around school timetables which are all over the place at the moment.
2 kg is really not much of a fluctuation to worry about. People crap out more than that lol. Its quite natural to go up and down in weight like that. Have some dodgy barbeque and have stomach the next day will do that easily.
I'm like Floyd Mayweather my weight stays the same. I usually weigh lighter than others..
I lost 40lbs in China last trip. Returned to America 2 months ago. Gained 15 pounds.
My weight didn't so much fluctuate as just increase... damned delicious Uyghur food combined with i-can't-be-arsed-exercising-when-it's-snowing laziness.
Fortunately, now I'm back home I'm deflating...
I gained weight while living here. Thanks to frequent 'ye xiao' with lots of beer and bbq
First time I went to China in 6 months I packed on 10kg...went home and lost it again.
When I returned the next year I packed on about 8kg...then went home and lost it.
This year in 8 months I packed on another 10kg...just got home and I plan on losing it again before I return in 3 months.
For me it is less about the food and beer intake and more about a lack of a proper exercise regiment which I have in place back home.
As others have said...for me it's more of a fluctuation up in weight while in China...heavy oil soaked fried Chinese food may play a part.
It's hard to control your choleric and fat intake if you eat out a lot in China like I do.
I wouldn't worry about any comments on gaining or losing weight - the important thing is if you're cool with your weight. When I meet people I always get different greetings depending on what I'm wearing. People usually tell me I've lost weight and should eat more (although I'm just wearing something slimming). Just their way of saying "hi".
If it's only 2kg, it might simply be water retention weight or food that hasn't made its way our yet. Weighing yourself in the morning and at night would give you different results. And I assume that it's Chinese people who comment about your weight? If you take every untactful comment they say to heart, you'll soon become very self-conscious. Disregard their comments.
If you are concerned about healthy eating, simply because it's yourself who cares about your well-being, then watch what you eat. More than one portion of white rice (simple carbs) after 7pm will considerably contribute to weigh gain on the long term. Instead, save white rice and red meat for meals around noon (brunch, lunch, 2pm meal) and try to give a preference to green vegetables with chicken, tofu or non-Hubei fish at night. And if it's green leafy vegetables eat as much of this goodness as you want. You can even steam broccoli and peel cucumbers to eat for late night snacks.
I gain weight when I go home in the summer and go back to slim in China. Love China, no one constantly tells me to eat more.
China doesn't affect me. Aging does. i've been putting on 10kg/decade.....
