Q: Fake Vaccines for Children

My wechat penyou chen has been full of a screenshot of a computer with the names of cities and provences. My wife tells me that these are a list of the places found to be giving children "fake" vaccines. I want believe that the government is all over this like a drunken sexpat in Coco Park and passportless hooker. I know this level of fucktardism beggers belief but what would the fake it with. We know the why, sadly. Do you fine blokes and sheilas have any further info or comments?

at the risk of spreading rumors, the story is as follows, a mother and daughter from shandong province ran a scam with a criminal network of about 180 people selling expired dated innoculations to hospitals and clinics over a 5 year period and made 570 million rmb with customers in 18 different provinces. the mother 47, doctor from heze,  was arrested march 11 in jinan, the police found 26 accounting ledgers and 22 separate bank cards, she was previously arrested in 2009 for selling fake inoculations and was supposed to already be in jail. in addition to expired vaccinations they did not keep the shots refrigerated for storage by health standards at 2 to 8 degrees centigrade, the product had been stored at 14 degrees.

after this blew up on the internet, a government reporter said the whole story was a hoax by a reporter wanting to be famous to try and discredit any government incompetence but most people dont believe the reporter.

sadly this story and the story 2 years ago about a doctor telling poor migrants that their baby had died and then selling the baby makes me reevaluate my thinking about doctors in china, perhaps they deserve to be attacked by the masses and killed like there were during the cultural revolution.

ambivalentmace:

more important than the woman doctor is the low life bastards that sold expired shots to the lady doctor for distribution, this pharmacy company probably government owned that made the shots needs to have a few executives lined up for the firing squad.

If in Shandong, here's Yahoo:

http://www.foxnews.com/health/2016/03/21/china-vows-crackdown-on-fake-va...

Published March 21, 2016 Reuters

SHANGHAI – Chinese authorities have pledged to crack down on the black market sale of vaccines after a case was made public involving nearly $90 million worth of illegal vaccines that are suspected of being sold in dozens of provinces around the country.

The drug regulator in Shandong, the province at the heart of the scandal, said on Monday it would work with police forces and the health ministry to inspect vaccine stocks to ascertain where 570 million yuan ($88 million) worth of vaccines had ended up.

The case, which involves vaccines against meningitis, rabies and other illnesses, underlines the challenge the world's second-largest drug market faces to regulate its fragmented supply chain, even as Beijing looks to support home-grown firms.

"We will thoroughly investigate all clues in the case and once we get to the bottom of it then we will severely punish those found to have violated the law," the Shandong food and drug administration said in a statement posted on its website.

reports are contradicting each other a little bit, the fox news article says she was arrested in april of last year, perhaps they were trying to cover this up from the population in general but someone leaked the story and they could not stop the tidal wave of press reports from the west, very sad if she has been in jail 10 months and we are just now getting this serious story to the public, the government should have been doing something about this last year if this is true.some articles say 18 to 24 provinces, some articles say 180 to 300 people involved.

icnif77:

I deleted first one, because it looks there are both the same.surprise

I read one yesterday about Guangzhou, but I didn't post it, 'cause of the respect toward posters here.....It was about selling 02 in bags and balloons on the mountains above Guang. with pics and everything....title was 'Capitalism with China-man characteristics.....'

my daughter has been getting shots here, she will be 2 in may, the shots were in jinan, if she got a fake shot, just let me know who did this, no need to waste the money on a trial.

Don't even think in that direction ....but, yeah having kids in China is another grey hair maker - concern.

I'm not sure what I'd do ....move out asap for their benefit.

Was thinking about that at tainted baby milk scandal....

when i was in the legion, i trained a few soldiers that are now high officers in the army here, some owe me some favors, i dont worry about losing my cool in china as much as most foreigners do, but favors are like currency here, you dont want to use one until its absolutely necessary, the good news is the shots the government gives free are not in this scandal, these are extra shots that they try to peddle on patients to make a profit and patients have to put out some cash, the shots my daughter have received are the free one's so far. they also offer imported shots instead of domestic but given how easy it is to make a fake box or packaging, im not sure how you would really believe the shot was imported anyway.

something that the article does not say is how none of the hospitals or clinics checked the medicine in a country known for fakes, so 24 provinces maybe 500 clinics or hospitals bought medicine and did not check temperature to see the medicine was 14c instead 2 to 8 c, nobody looked in a microscope to check the quality of the shots. this does not speak well of lab assistants, doctors, pharmacists, i know quality is not in the chinese dictionary but you would think quality is in the chinese medical dictionary. five years and nobody noticed anything wrong. thats scary.

ScotsAlan:

There was a story a few years back about doctors in a GZ hospital selling fake medicine. People died. The doctors knew it was fake but reckoned they could make a few bucks. Then there was the 2008 milk scandal. People who are caught doing this are executed. But there will always be a rogue doctor or supplier who worship money more than their own life. That has to be a cultural thing. Sad, but seems to be true. Like the Foxconn suicides. The employers found out they all had company insurance policies and decided to cash in for the benefit of their families. The company stopped paying out for suicides and the suicides stopped.

An update on this.

The wife told me tonight that all kids in China are to be re-vaccinated. Not just kids in affected areas, all of them.

Now I need to go find out if double vaccinations are ok.

iWolf:

I'm not a doctor so feel free to disregard this (if you are wise) but as I understand it, it will make no difference at worst and if you got an ineffective dose then it will help protect you.

That's my instinct too iwolf. Ha ha. I bet every bottle will be inspected in every way possible by the parents. Expect long lines at the hospitals.

Just to add iwolf. I thought it was interesting that Robert de Niro pulled his film about the mmr jab. That whole mmr thing put millions of kids at risk. The doctor who first linked it was discredited. Immunization on a whole is absolutely needed.

And just what exactly are they going to inspect? A bottle with a label on it! Maybe test the (current) temperature?

Seriously, I could run that scam, and never get caught... because I'd spend the money on new labels! Temperatures don't matter.... just put them in the fridge for a couple of hours before delivery... sorted!

(and the solution to this... a chemical that will discolour if the temp gets above X degrees, or will break down and discolour atter X amount of time)

I think many of you have this idea that becoming a doctor or nurse is about wanting to help people.

I'd suggest, it's more about getting a higher paid job, and lots of guanxi. Of course, there are many doctors and nurses who really care (at least at first... this job may well remove the remaining shreds of humanity), but I'd say the majority are in it for less than altruistic reasons.

And... fake drugs are available all the time. Taobao is full of them! So, why the surprise?? (and, reputable <cough??> international drug companies get their senior management imprisoned for corruption - for trying to get a foot into the Chinese market)

A bit on this

http://www.chinafile.com/green-space/vaccine-scandal-rocks-china

My WeChat now has also gotten a list of places to avoid getting vaccinated in Guangdong Province. The list is basically just private clinics, and I will not post it as I really think it is not based on facts.

My daughter has now had her jabs redone.

And I found out a strange thing. My daughters school has a full time doctor, and all the kids are lined up twice a day for a quick health check. The slightest indication of illness and they get a full check and sent home.

Is anybody going to die over this shit like the mild scandal. I consider this much worse because we will never know perhaps the real damage.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
