I feel like trying something new and was wondering if anyone knew of some very typical and special dishes from some of the various minority ethnic groups in China?
Dapanji is a delicious dish from Xinjiang containing chicken pieces, potatoes, flat wide noodles, tomatoes, peppers and chilli.
The food from the Dai minority is usually good too. They use a lot of pineapples in their dishes. And I love Yunnan cuisine, especially the friend Goats Cheese.
How these kind of dishes from Xinjiang?
Shou La Mian- A typical hand made noodle dish.
· Sangza- Fried and crispy wheat doughs.
· Samsa- Brick oven baked lamb pies.
· Youtazi – Multilayered bread which is steamed.
· Kebabs- Eaten straight off the skewer.
Traveler:
Kebabs are great after a night of excessive alcohol consumption.
'Lanzhou lamian' restaurants are around all of China. They are from Lanzhou and are a minority. they are the places that bang the hell out of the noodles, but also have some nice meat and rice dishes. The meals are ok, but different which may be wonderful sometimes. I heard form my Chinese friend that the locals just bark orders at these people and treat them like shit, just another reason to give them some business.
there is a small village south of yangshuo, guilin, that makes awesome fried beef. I think its Zhongshan (not guangdong zhongshan). anyway, I would give my arm to find out how to cook that
