Q: Getting a HK visa for my Chinese girlfriend.

I planned a trip to Hong Kong with my Chinese girlfriend and asked her to sourt out the visa issue but she applied for the Tuandui Luyou(group)visa which is apparently of no use since we are traveling together.

There is no time to apply for a new visa now. Any advice on what can she do?

She holds a valid passport and the Tuandui Luyou visa .

Thanks

That's very easy. go taobao find any HK visa agent, give them your gf information, departure time, date of birth etc and pay them(less than50 rmb,you need to do this one day before you go at least several hrs) then they will give you a contact number and someone will wait for you at the boarder to give you the paper and  you can pass!

What provence is she from ? If Guangdong or Guangxi ( I think), she just has to go to the local exit entry admin bureau and she can get a credit card style "passport" that allows her into HK or Maccau. She still needs a visa on this card, but it is loaded electronically at the same office.

If she is from other provences she needs to get a different type of document. My wife says any travel agent is the place to go. Unfortunately she things she needs to go as part of a group. She says the international passport is no use for HK unless you have plane tickets in your hand to go somewhere else from hk.

I think it also depends on if her houkou is urban or farmer, and if urban, what tier city.

She got this credit card style "passport". She is from Hubei. Urban hukou but her city is a total shithole.

The credit card style passport is called a Cross Border Permit, Hongkers on the other side can apply for the Return Home Permit to come on the Mainland, visa free however.

Sounds like she screwed up big time. Leave her at home and go enjoy your trip.

Applying from the government offices directly only takes a few days. Depending on where you are of course but for my wife its super easy.

Postpone your trip for a week. No biggie.

How long you plan to stay?? In an emergency i have heard of people buying fully refundable plane tickets then using the ticket to get a visa free transit period at the border, then once you leave you get a refund.

Jump the fence....

Get your girl pregnant than wait till shes about to burst then bum rush the border and cry for clemency.

Ha ha. slightest sign of a bump and no way will she get in. unless she uses one of the tunnels :-)

It seems that buying fully a refundable plane ticket is the way to go. I'm just wondering, what if they demand to see the visa in her passport? Perhaps there are some countries that grant Chinese visa on arrival?

Visa? Yup. There is a strange rule in China that says Chinese people cant leave China without a visa....even if they are going to a country where they dont need one.

Im not sure thats entirely true anymore. For my wedding about half of her 40 family members flew out HK and passed the border without any visa. The landed visa has been going on and off for a while. None had an issue. If it were me, id feel a printout would be fine without a visa as thats what I saw. But shit changes daily.

Yeah too late. I think you need to apply at least a month in advance.

same thing happened to me last year, my bf got a group visa and didnt know until we were at the airport!! however we just asked a group that was travelling to help us and paid some money and they gave us a form saying he was travelling with them, problem solved. I think its just the form she needs to say she is with a group, they didnt check if he was actually with one.

blawen:

The rules stipulate that the holder of this type of visa must enter AND exit Hong Kong with a group.

So how was it in the case of your BF? I mean, when leaving HK? Any problems?

blawen. This is too common in China.  People leaving it till the last minute.  You are panicking, your GF is pleading ignorance and your blood pressure is hitting the roof.

From reading the above posts and talking to my wife ( GZ houkou, so easy for her to go to HK), your wife needs to go to a travel agent and find a group to enter with. Then, once in HK, find another group to exit with. She should be able to research all this online and find out who, how much and how to do it.  It can be done. She has the card and the visa. She should go talk to that agent.

This is typical of the stupid nonsense that everyone here comes across on an almost daily basis.

It's your girlfriend's job to get her travel permits.  If she can't do it, then go without her.

Not many people in China are able to go to HK.  But she has her visa. It's up to her to join the dots to make it work.
