Hi Ammia, I've been living in Urumqi for a couple of months. The streets are quite calm and I've never seen any violence of any sort during my time here. The big problem doesn't seem to be violence, but theft: pickpockets are a problem.

I can't say very much for the rest of the province, pesonally I'd be a little more cautious going to the south of Xinjiang and wouldn't travel alone.

The landscape, at least in the north, is really beautiful. I can't wait to get some time to see more of XInjiang.
