Q: Have any of Beijing's rock bands made a name for themselves abroad?

You know, Hedgehog, Carsick Cars, Queen Sea Big Shark, Nova Heart, Gar and so on. They're all in my humble view decent bands, and easily trample over any of the tat spewed out in the recent pop charts back home. Even our modern rock/indie output is pretty weak (though David Bowie's new release has got me mega-excited!) Have any of them toured the US/Europe/Aus and got credibility in these places?

Probably not outside of some pretty specialized hipster circles.

I did see Re-TROS and Lonely China Day a number of years ago in the US though. The audience responded well enough but was quite small.

Can you imagine how much of a blow to Cui Jian's ego it would be to tour abroad? No one would know who the hell he is, even though he is like rock royalty here.
