As I was awoken at 3am this morning by the gentle clanking of the workers eagerly sorting their beer bottles outside my window I couldn't help but count my blessings as yet another day of tranquility was about to unfold here in the People's Republic. The fragrant breeze blowing thru my window lifted my spirits as I joyfully enjoyed the workers whistling a playful ditty. With visions of sugarplums dancing in my head I slid back my satin sheets and sat on the edge of my four post bed. Thankful to be alive, I slid my hushpuppies on and made my way to the washroom. As the sweet scent of lavender surrounded me I knew this was to be yet again, another stellar offering from the gods in this unparralleled land of Utopia here in the Middle Kingdom. After relaxing in my tub I was quick to scurry to the kitchen for my ever present croissants and tea. I thumbed thru the morning paper only to glance at my watch to see that it was 8am already. I gingerly sauntered to the bus-stop being sure to exchange greetings and endless pleasantries of "Ni hao!" with my newfound friends. I will never tire of the short jaunt to my stop while discussing the weather and sharing a laugh or two with my neighbours and strangers alike. Much to my chagrin, I realized I missed the bus but not to fret I was quickly approached by a gentleman who politely asked, "What's wrong kind sir?" I told him of my quandry and he smiled and pointed out that his taxi was parked near the donut shop and he would be happy to give me a ride to my destination. Again, the comradery here never ceases to amaze and tantalize me so I agreed and away we went. I was humming the national anthem when we pulled up to my work and just when I thought my day couldn't get any brighter, I spotted a brand new, shiny Wu Mao on the sidewalk. I picked it up and slide it into my pocket thinking of the possibilities for it later. Alas, I skipped off to my class and knew that this was to be another banner day.
You can relate right?

You really need to learn what irony is, then you may understand what this is really about.
Why yes! I just went through a whole week of such bliss! I felt like I had transcended the bonds of reality and finally reached Nirvana!
I'm glad that you have shared the experience!
Well I guess I have my challenge.... To have even a better day than that... I can already tell this is going to be a bad idea.

I look forward to it........I left out the part where my Chinese friends and I shared a spitoon. Drat!
How strange! In different citites, we lead nearly parallel lives.

Me too! Only I was singing "Zip-a-dee-do-da" as I skipped across the street to class, gave a nice flower for the "ayi" selling eggs while students tap danced as they handed puppies to all!
Note to self: No more cheap bai jiu before breakfast...
I woke up to fireworks this morning while I was having a nightmare about a war. Can you imagine my suprize?
Give me some of what ever you took the night before fore I would live to have a gander of this day
No probs Derek, this site is full of thumb downers who think they no everything about China and criticize people for asking about issues visas, working without the proper visas and so on, yet in the end they all fall the same way
Are you trying that mushroom diet Happy was talking about last week?
