10,000rmb +

Surely you're joking. I just looked up prices at an American store and they had gold rings for as low as $230! Why's it so much more expensive?

woody:

Question was about a decent wedding ring. I wish that the marketing of traditional wedding customs and the expectations that women in all cultures have been conitioned to expect since they could first look at fairy stories of princess weddings and continuing through TV shows movies and magazines hadn't happened. But sadly most women have the expectation that you need to spend a lot to prove you love them. I know a few Aussies and Chinese who have recently married. The Aussie paid around $2000 (would have cost around 20,000rmb) for his ring in Sydney and my lacal friends all paid over and some well over 10,000rmb for theirs. Njord is correct about bringing one from elsewhere if you can. My advice pay as little as you think you can get away with as it's not that important and the cash would be a lot better wasted elsewhere.

I ask because a decent wedding ring here costs about $250-350 dollars but that same ring can go for $2000 in China.

You are supoposed to spend about 6 months wages on a ring to show your sincerity and devotion. So about $25,000 not Y ,,,,,,,NAmerican gold,= 10 or 14 c,, China gold is 18 0r 24 ct.. then diamonds know the CCC and pick yr grade.

woody:

I am sincere and devoted, but not 60K Aus sincere and devoted. Thank god my misses is as laid back as me about this shit and would rather blow that sort of cash on something like travel and leisure over a very long term.

I have a size 5 1/2 set that fit together, better than 1/4K center diamond sitting in a drawer some where,,,i'm so glad I never did that, a ring like that will vary $800 to $2000 depends on the diamonds. A big cloudy diamond shows badly..I think Chinese women with smaller hands would look better with a smaller diamond ,,take her with you to pick one,, get the conflict diamonds better price

a 14 K overlay ring with a Cubic Zirconia is about $22 on EBay,, there are some nice used rings(have cleaned and polished/ rings should have this done every 6 months) and new ones too.
Do NOT have anything SENT TO China. I sent a gold bracelet for birthday gift, never got there.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
