Family of three with a 5 year old daughter?

Ok this guy is a wumao. The AQI in Beijing is the same as Los Angeles? The highest AQI recorded in American history was less than 150. Beijing regularly gets up to 400 plus. This guy claims that the most polluted major city in the world is not as bad as the US....... and he also doesn't see a difference between local school (brainwashing and rote learning) and international school (a real education in a good one). This site is becoming infested with this propaganda crap.

yeah this guy sounds silly. I don't know what his deal is.
Google.com. Is an excellent source of information.
Where in China? What is your definition of "comfortable".
For me, I would have to make enough to fly my children home; there is no way that I would subject a child of mine to the toxic xenophobia that is "growing up as a foreigner in PRC".
Spiderboenz:
Also, the Internet has these awesome things called COST OF LIVING COMPARISON sites.
GarrettAbbott:
I was kind of hoping for some personal experience, besides I have been watch the AQI in Beijing and notice that it is about the same as Los Angeles, still not good, but better then what we here over here in the US.
Spiderboenz:
Yes, because those numbers are ABSOLUTELY not manipulated.
Have a look at the forums on shanghaiexpat. You'll get a good idea there for that city. Beijing is similarly priced. Anywhere else should be cheaper to live.
Where would you want your daughter going to school? International or Chinese public school?
GarrettAbbott:
I was thinking international, but really, is one better then the other?
Stiggs:
I don't know much about international schools here so can't tell you for sure, but I would say they are a much better option. Even more so if your daughter speaks no Chinese.
They will also be a LOT more expensive so you would want to be on a good salary.
Have u ever been in the Middle Kingdom? or E/SE Asia? It's one thing for a dude who's a bit crazy to show-up and hang-out over here, quite another to put a 5-year old kid in here, unless you can live the diplomat/CEO lifestyle, which I see you can't by your question. This place has serious pollution, danger, lack of hygiene, and craziness. Careful be.
lotsa money is how much u need. unless u like living like a local, which u don't/won't.

Are you a moron? Don't bring anyone here, certainly not anyone you care about.
to give you a figure in a city like shanghai:
western style living:
food: 10000-15000 RMB
Transportation: car + driver 6000-8000 RMB
Entertainment: 2000-5000 RMB
Housing (Villa): 30000-50000 RMB
Education: Primary school international 12500 - 16000 RMB
----------------------------------------------------------------
Total: 65000 - 94000 RMB
An expat package will cover most of the costs except food and entertainment
Chinese Style:
food: 3000 - 4000 RMB (cooking by yourself with no western products)
Transportation: 1000 RMB (Metro and some taxi)
Entertainment: 1000 RMB
Housing: 7000 RMB (chinese style 2 Bedrooms)
Education: Not sure
----------------------------------------------------------
Total: 12000 - unknown RMB
It all depends on your package. But I wouldnt go china for less than 50000 RMB + housing + Education with a family behind
And why on Earth would you want to do that...?
It's one thing to go over to China solo or with people who have an informed choice... but to take a family over there is a VERY bad idea.
The cultural differences will just wear down heavily on your family... and if that doesn't... the pollution, stares and whispers certainly will.
