Q: How much weight have you gained whilst in China?

I recently read a story in the China Daily about a woman who comes to China and loosers weight, even though she eats what she wants. I have gained heaps of weight and I don't eat heaps of food at all, probably one main meal a day and fruit etc. I drink some beer but nothing different to what I used too.

I lost 10kg. I am eating many more vegetables and getting more exercise. Without a car here I have to walk or ride my bike more.

I've put on at least 15kg and like the OP I don't eat much at all, I guess my lifestyle has become more sedentary by driving everywhere more and not walking too much. If you want to lose weight here, I think you have to eat like a local. In Dongguan there is too much access to Western food, even cooking at home is Western food because it's easy to get the ingredients at Walmart or an Import store.

4 years ago = 61 kg (healthy, mid range BMI, entered China with this weight)

3 years ago = 58 kg (Food issues, no interest on eating, not sure what to make at home etc.)

2 years ago= 64 kg (too much BCDs and alcohol)

last year = 62 kg (calm and happy life, stable relationship with a foreigner by a foreigner, happy mutual alcohol hours, calories count, exercise just like old days before entering China)

A month ago = 59.9 kg (food + alcohol is directly proportional to exercises). Will leave China at 60 -62 kg. (That is my healthy weight based on BMI).

None!

My overall weight didn't change (+ - 5kg) last 30 years. 'add-it' 65 -70kg. I didn't do too much to prevent or gain my weight. It's in my genes, 'cause everybody in my family is the same, females or males.

I'm under 'diet program', which prevent me to ingest (too much) white sugars or CH, but I hardly follow MDs, ever for anything! It must be in 'my genes' also!

When other people around me wish me 'long life' or 'be well' at holidays, I reply with my only wish for longer life: 'Stay away from the doctors and hospitals! (as much as you can)'

I've lost about 10kg

I rarely eat until I am full as I would back home. Usually lunch and dinner will leave me hungry, so apples and bananas are used to fill in.

Nessquick:

I have to learn that too. usually I fill up, and few minutes later add more, because it was my own made food and was much much greater than just wonderful and very delicious  .

People who lose weight here seem to not eat as much as they did back home, or eat less filling things at least. The first year I was here I lost at least 15 kg (I like using pounds, but I'll use KG for others) and got really skinny. Girls loved it! But that's not acceptable by 'Merican standards. When I came back two years later I had regained size and learned that I need to cook for myself here to keep it. I usually eat very blandly which is boring. But usually I make time to have one meal a day outside so that I don't go nuts with my terrible cooking. I've actually gained 10 KG here, which is odd. I don't have a clear idea where it put itself on my body... 110 KG at the moment.

How can you gain weight in China? The food in here make you sick quite frequently. I used to eat a lot more back home in Texas.

I gained over 10 kg. But that's because I was working out and drinking tons of milk.

I didn't gain any weight. In fact, since I arrived 6/7 months ago, I've lost 25kg, and I feel like I eat more here in China than I did in America, strange..but I'm not complaining..I still got another 30-40kg to go

Many people have told me before, and I'm hearing it again here, that Chinese food is bad, and makes you sick and all of that. But I never experienced any of that. Never got sick, never had the "running to the bathroom every 5 minutes" issue, in fact, I think my nutrition and overall heath is better here because of the food. And I don't have a strong stomach, it's actually pretty weak, in America let's just say the consistency of my "deliveries" were mud-at best, and just all liquid at worst. In China that has only happened to me once, when I visited Hangzhou and ate their local food. They use too much sugar in their food, it reminded me of American food as a matter of fact, maybe sugar was my issue all along...

on the contrary, I lost some weights here. odd? I don't think chinese food will easily make you gain weight. Western food does.

jetfire9000:

The short grain rice that goes in all rice dishes here is the fastest digesting rice you could ever find. Fast and empty carbs are actually a quick way to gain weight cause you're sure to get hungry just after thirty minutes of eating a bowl of it!   Plus all the meat is greasy an covers I'm fat.  I don't eat the rice so much nor the meat so I can avoid those dangers at least.

I've been back to China for a while, initially I gained weight probably because of the oily fried foods, later I took on marathon and swimming then my weight went down quite a bit. Recently I learned about weight training and stuff and as supplement, I eat quite a lot of meat and beans then I get heavier again. China gave me rollercoaster weight.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
