Q: How much would a week in Sanya cost?

Not talking 5 star hotels or super fancy restaurants - just average everything.

Anyone been to Sanya who can give a global estimate?

Depends on how much you shop and what you want to do...Average per day could be 100 dollars that is if you are a tourist and you want to do a lot of things rather than stay in. On average to have fun in Sanya at least spending 100 dollars a day. So in a week between 700 to 1000 dollars if you want to really have fun. If not and your just there to not have so much fun probably and estimated 300 to 400 dollars.

I have been to Sanya a few times, and have always stayed at the Sanya Family Inn.  I hear it is closed now, will be torn down and a new hotel built, but Caddie Lu is still a very helpful person and does get fabulous prices on airfare and hotel packages.  Her website is at :

http://www.sunnysanya.com/sanyaresort/Sunny_Sanya_B&B_Family_Inn.asp

Visit the page and contact her for quotes on your preferences.  If I recall right, last time I paid about 6,000 Rmb for a 5 nights stay, but depend on season too.    My package included taxi from Sanya Airport to hotel and back.  Sanya is not a place to go to shop.  As a tourist town, prices are high, and I am there to relax and swim, not to shop.  Be aware in restaurants, if menu does not show prices clearly, do not stay to eat.  And do not accept anything not ordered, or you will be scalped.

There are a few tours available.  One to an island nearby, and another to a very famous Buddhist area about 45 minutes away from Sanya (40 Kms west of Sanya).  This last one is 160 Rmb per person, and includes entrance and a vegetarian lunch, buffet style.  If taken (and I found it fascinating), do bring comfortable walking shoes, and plenty drinking water and umbrellas in case of rain or sunshine, and a good camera.  The Nashan Temple can be seen at :

The tour picks you up in early morning ant your hotel, and will bring you back in mid afternoon.  There are trolley cars available inside to ride form place to place (it is huge, over 10 acres) and if I recall right, very cheap.

Caddie Lu is a wonderful and helpful woman, does speak good Englsih, and of course, she is making money off you, but will not steer you wrong, she has always given me good advise and excellent service.  Give her a phone call and discuss your needs, and see what she can do for you or recommends.  The phone call will not cost you anything.

I just booked a Chinese tour with spring airlines for 5 days including return flights and 4 star accomodation for 3600yuan. This is for start of July. It's a tour of the whole island and also Sanya. The tour group is for only 15 people. And all meals are included. English tours are DOUBLE the price.

I did one of those around 2001.  Flew into Haikou and then in a van with 7 others around Hainan Island.  One forewarning do, you get what you pay for.  mine was real cheap hotels and restaurants, I was not really comfortable or relaxed.  Besides, for one tourist attraction stop, we had maybe as much as 4 stops at factory outlets and shops.    I am not into buying pearls, or herbs or medicines, so I really did not enjoy the trip.  At tourist places we got 30 to 60 minutes stops, at factory outlets, as long as someone was buying, we would be there.  That was my first and last tour trip in China.

Make sure you do get a day by day account of proposed activities before you buy.

The last evening back in Haikou, before returning to Guangzhou, we went to a night club to see a show.  Supposed to be a famous one, I was told.  Truly, the girls were outstanding, and danced beautifully.  But at the end I was shocked.  They started to remove their clothes.  Beautiful breasts, but when shorts came off, quite a disappointment, they all were Ladyboys !  crying

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
