For me I need a pizza fix once a week, and although I enjoy Chinese food though my culinary tastes have become more international since being in Beijing, and on any given week will eat Korean, Japanese, Indian, Italian etc. ( I know the first three aren't "Western" but you know what I mean). I'd say the ratio is 60% Chinese 40% others.
I cook 80% of my own food. That's western. I have an oven. That helps. So, when I eat at home it's western (Italian, Hungarian, Aussie, etc.) and when I eat out it's Chinese - which can be Korean BBQ as well. In a Province like Heilongjiang the choices are somewhat limited. I'm happy.
I'd say about 85-90% of the time. I too cook most of my food and only eat Chinese food when I'm at work and need a quick bite. I'm a big fan of trying new herbs so I try to create new dishes every time I cook.
I eat at Mcdonalds, KFC and Burger King a lot everyweek. So I would say at least 80-90% of the time!
I was in McD 3 times in 2003 with my G 4: Pompano Beach, FL McD had free Wi-fi, I never ate there, drinked water only.
In China, I eat Western food all the time: I cook myself! haaa

I stayed in Ft. Lauderdale, butt....I was cycling on A1A to Pompano, made turn at Briny's, pass Ft. Lauderdale, and had huge ice-cream on South Miami Beach after one hour swimming in the Sea. Then, checked newest female swimsuit fashion at the beach, and rode back to Ft. Lauderdale. A bit less than 100 miles, 6 hours all together, twice a week as an exercise.
I had Sony Ericsson mobile phone with 'Vision' plan at Sprint PCS, for $10 US extra monthly. After I paired laptop and phone, I was able to surf Internet with G4 through 'Vision' plan. That was in 2003. Compare that with Chinese Internet today.

Whenever I cook. I've gotten pretty good at making dishes that I miss whenever I have a craving for something. Last week, I made bagels.
Usually I just stick with my wife's or more often her aunt's cooking (we both work evenings). That can be a little hit or miss to tell the truth. They both do that North Eastern thing where they add three or four cloves of garlic and then douse the whole thing in vinegar before serving. That said, I know her aunt has issues with some of the things I put cheese on or in, but I don't think either of us would stop if the other asked.
I try to cook as often as possible By doing so I know what goes into the dishes, what kind of oil and spices.
At least 3x a week I'll have something from McD's, Starbucks or KFC...
By the time I left I had learned to make so much western food from scratch and had bought an oven as well. I was having Eggs Benedict for breakfast, mushroom soup and sandwich for lunch then a roast for dinner. It was great.

Made it. You can buy English muffins at jenny lou's, but they are also easy to make. You don't even need an oven. Hollondaise is easy too, man. Get a bowl and put it on top of a pot of boiling water to sort of make a double boiler. Then it's just egg yolks, pepper, butter and lemon juice all whisked together in the bowl. But don't let it get too hot cause it'll scramble. Just when it starts to thickin a bit take it off and put it on the benny!
It's a sad commentary when KFC, Pizza Hut and McDonalds are by far the best Western restaurants that we have in China. The so called "western restaurants" are brutal up here with Chinese chefs cooking steaks and pork chops. No thanks.

Where do you live, Derek? Even in the middle of nowhere, where I lived, there was one amazing really great mediterranean restaurant and another than did very good US comfort food.

I live where Derek lives and I agree. I think residents of Daqing would need to go to the Sheraton hotel that opened here a year ago but I'm not sure about that. Eateries here that boast a western name are really a front for just a slight difference on preparation by Chinese cooks. Would you believe that in Longfeng of all places there is a huge restaurant called "Australia"? Naturally I went there as soon as I spotted it and it's basically Chinese hot pot saying that the meat supplied, lamb, is from Australia. Unfortunately the menu states the lamb comes from NZ, which, by the way, is as good as or even better than OZ lamb anyway....if it's true. In Wanda Place (a large shopping centre) I went to a restaurant called La Joie, supposedly French. Didn't even come close but I will admit the western menu looked pretty interesting and I will return there simply to eat the steak again. It's the only place I have found in Daqing that actually serves a steak which is a must for an Aussie diet. It was amusing to watch the Chinese customers trying to eat with a knife and fork and I actually had to show the Chinese friends I went with how to use them to eat. Many tables asked for chopstix as they were not supplied as usual!

Yesterday at Pizza Hut I watched in utter amazement at a young boy (maybe 14 years old) gleefully drinking gravy out of the gravy boat instead of pouring it on his potatoes and steak. When he finished his "beverage" he took his sisters gravy boat and proceeded to slurp the remainder of hers too.
If I went to a Chinese restaurant what would I have to do in order to equal that feat?
As often as possible. I lean towards McDonalds, Starbucks, and Pizza Hut more than KFC. If I'm feeling adventurous, I'll scoot up to the big town to have some Papa Johns, Burger King, or one of the "authentic" western restaurants (ran by expats). Other mainstays are Sushi places! I know those aren't western....but they ain't Chinese either
About the only Chinese places I ever go to are quick and easy joints for dumplings or fried rice or something. Once a week max!
Daily! Breakfast - bacon, onion, eggs, mushrooms (and sometimes as an omelette using cream! ) Dinner - cook up a piece of pork chop with steamed vegies.... etc etc
Occasionally, instant noodles.. (they're western, aren't they?? ;P)
Not very often. Maybe Pizza Hut once a month and McD's about twice a month.
My gf cooks almost all our meals and while I often get to pick the main ingredients she uses it's always Chinese style.
And when we do go out she wants Chinese food 90% of the time (although we do frequent the local western style steak house a few times a month).
I get my fix at home with crackers and cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches (on my own) and the odd meal I cook for us.
60% western 40% Chinese ( when I eat out I always try to find a Iceland restaurant, good food )
90% chinese food ratio for me... real western food is too expensive and still not the same taste
I also eat about 90% Chinese food and 10% Non-Chinese foods. If I do go out, it's usually either for a pizza, a hamburger, or occasionally a steak. Usually I just eat lots of rice, vegetables, and dumplings.
I only eat western for 1% of the time, maybe a pizza once a month. I save my eating of western food for my trip back to the states every two or three years. Funny thing, when I lived in the US, I never ate Chinese, now that is all I eat.
They have western food in China????Could have fooled me.

We, maybe, eat western food about once a week and then it is usually pizza or I will make some fairly authentic spaghetti at home. Chinese stakes are awful and the only restaurant we have in town is a KFC. About once a month I actually take a 4 hour roundtrip bike ride to the nearest McDonald’s. I could take a train, but I like to ride bike and students are shocked that I will travel so far on my bike.
