Do you need to take the dogs picture and paws prints in?

Scandinavian:

the EU Pet pass has space for photo, however it is the ID-chip that is important, that is what gets checked upon re-entry to EU.

I brought Butch into the country on his own ticket and passport - (Not really.  But papers...).  That was good enough for customs in BJ.  They did not want to know if Butch was friendly or not...

Got home to our "little" 2-tier city on the coast of Shandong and never bothered to register the rottie hound.  He wasn't interested in going down to the police station and neither was I.  And when we're out for a stroll, a poop or a frisbee moment, nobody bothers us.  Butch doesn't like cops or anyone in a uniform.  And they know it.  Nobody f*cks with Butch.  Except vacuum cleaners and Chihuahuas...

Glad to see we're still more concerned with being vague or funny instead of giving real answers.

I think you go to the PSB and you need to have proof of rabies shots. As far as I know dogs aren't tagged like at home. Some dogs in some cities are not allowed. I wanted to bring my Collie to China, couldn't. I read that if the cops take your dog during a complaint, you might never see it again. My girl friend lost her Collie in Guilin and never found it. I worry that it ended up in a meat market and not a good home.

Check with the State Department of your home country.  They usually have reliable and up-to-date info on what you need to do or not do when you travel to a particular country with a pet.  And I would imagine most SDs have a website you can consult for the info you need.

Have you already entered your dog into China?  If so, how long was the quarantine?  Once past that period, take Fido home and, as Ted & Scando say above, go to your local PSB, pay a few kuai, and get a dog tag - if they even exist here...

Scandinavian:

Note to Red: If you have registered your address with the police prior to carrying your pet into China you can ask to home-quarantine it. Then fido can go straight to the streets and pee all over the place.

Red_Fox:

Scando - Not sure I got you right.  Register with the Chinese police and home-quarantine the mutt at home in China?  Didn't get that.

Anyway, I didn't do any of the above.  So, is Butch an illegal alien?  Ha ha!  Despite the fact that he can outpee and outpoop any of my Chinese neighbors?  (He should earn an honorary passport for that, dontcha think?)  From the incontinent, Alzheimer's octogenarian female who lives upstairs and pees all over the hood at all times of day or night to the kiddies up and down the block who pinch a loaf with Granny's blessing...

Actually, I'm cool with all the above "social" behavior.  But Butch isn't.  He misses the fire hydrants and grassy lawns back home...
