Normally, for just about any visa type (with some exceptions) the amount of time you can stay is between 30 (most likely) and 60 days.  Once you are here and established, it is possible to get 1 year, multiple entry visas where you don't need to leave the country at all.  And once you have been here a really long while, you can apply for even longer visas.

gracezeee:

yeah only 30 days and the 60 days depends on the consulate most likely it means it depends on the mood of the consulate :( is it? hehe i wish i could get 60 days. thanks anyway :)

Today, my wife tried to extend my "L" visa (a double entry 30day + 30 day "L" visa) to either a 6 month or 1 year "Spouse Visa". A Spouse Visa is really just a fancy name for a 1 year "L" visa. The local authorities refused and offered to extend my "L" visa for just 30 more days while I make a job decision. Their reasoning was they didnt want me wandering around and possibly working on the extended "L" visa.

your wife is based where?

lemme share u what i had mine since we both are from the same country. proof of funds not less than 60,000PhP (10,000rmb roughly). if ure invited, show them ur invitation letter, proof of acquaintance, like photos, cert of residence of the host, NBI clearance if 1st time, cert of employment in the Phils. they dont normally deny application, they'd ask u for other docs if u missed bringing 'em during ur lodging. good luck

I read from USA were having to bring documents, bank statements etc. The cost from USA is more for visa also, For Canada I brought everything I had, hotel reservations, health coverage, bank statements. The clerk took my passport and form and said come back Wednesday. I asked if she wanted anything more, she just shook her head. I wouldn't offer anything extra again

I'm from the USA.  I didn't have to bring anything.  n o t h i n g.  I sent my passport to an agency in D.C., they did the dirty work and sent it back in 2 days.... 1 year multi-entry.   I just did the same thing 3 months ago from Hong Kong.

Same in Australia. You can get a single entry 60 days, a two entry 60 days max each or a 12 month multiple entry with each stay up to 60 days. Just take your passport to the China visa centre in Sydney, pay the money and fill out a simple form. takes 4 days but you can get it quicker if you pay a fast fee.

Gracezeee:  First, the "L" visa or turist visa is issued for about 6 or 7 different purposes, from toursit visit to visiting friends and relatives.  There are three things of importance on a Chinese "L" Visa, and they are : validity, number of entries and number of days to stay.

Validity :  normally, three types could be issued, 6 months, one year and two years from date of issue.  It tells you and Immigration Officials at border station on what dates your visa is valid to use, or when it will expire.  Longer than 2 years is seldom issued.
Number of entries:  Here also you can get three different types, one entry, two entries or multiple entries, it is identified by either a 1, or a 2 or an M.  That will indicate within the period of validity, how many times you can legally enter China.
Numbewr of days to stay.  This tells you, once you enter China, the maximum number of days you can LEGALLY stay, normally issued in multiples of 30 days, from 30 days up to 180 days I have seen it.  Noticwe it is not months but days, since some months have 31 days be extra careful or you will overstay.

At present time, I do have a 2 years "L" visa, M entries and 180 days stay each time.  But I have been coming and living in China for many years, and have had probably close 10 different "L" visas during these years.

In USA,  you do not need to show any bank statements, just fill out visa request form, include photo, and send it to visa agent with passport and money.  You will get it back within 7 to 15 days.  Now, it is the prerogative of the Chinese Official granting you the visa to give you as much or as little from what you requested.  Normally you start with a 6 months, 1 or 2 entries 30 days stay visa, and work your way up with subsequent ones.

DZOROBER:  If all you got was a "fine" after staying in China with an expired passport 5 years (and visa), you are very lucky.  You did not say if they granted you a new visa on your new passport, if they did you can leave China and return.  If they did not, you can leave China and wait a few years before asking for a visa.  You are very lucky not to get deported.

And last, China has a policy to charge for a visa as much as Chinese nationals are charged for the visa to enter the country abroad.  In the USA case, I think the charge is up to $ 150 per visa for Chinese to enter USA, so that is exactly what we are charged as USA nationals to enter China.  This is why different countries' nationals are charged different fees for Chinese visas, and you are requested to return to your country when requesting a Chinese visa at another country abroad.

thank you.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
