Is it common in your country that people smoke marijuana? Is it legal in china? If not, what would be the corresponding punishment?
Is it common for people in your country to get plastered on grain alcohol that tastes like bile while eating hot pot cooked in gutter oil before they go to KTV and buy sex from exploited young country girls?
I am not smoking. I dont even smoke cigarette and i dont even know the exact smell of a weed. A friend of mine wants to smoke it and try to encourage me to do it. Its kinda peer pressure to me. But i have a choice. Its either to be either a friend and smoke or to lose a friend and dont smoke. I prefer the last choice. Its hard to lose a friend but its for my safety
Mr_spoon:
He won't be friends with you if you don't smoke? Are you 13?
If he's that shallow, maybe you should ask yourself if he's worth keeping around.
Lord_hanson:
That is weird, he obviously isn't really a friend if he demands you do something. It kind of sounds like you are both teenagers or something.
Back home, yes, it's very common for people to try a few times, for people born in the 80's or latter. For the immense majority, it won't go farther than accepting a few puffs. A minority will make an habit of it until they hit 30, parenthood and a life with more responsibilities. It's of course completely underground, marijuana is illegal. Police will be relatively tolerant to consumption, but not to trade, even minor. It's in France, Netherlands (or is it Denmark ?) for instance make it legal. Alcohol is legal and far less dodgy to obtain, even if it's a worse drug, health wise...
Marijuana is forbidden in China, and little understood. It's put in the same basket (from a legal and cultural point of view) with metaphetamine, ketamine, cocain, etc. regardless of medical evidence and actual experience.
Have you ever been to Yunnan province? People are hitting up the bong on every fucking street corner. And they say it's "medicine." It smells like the devil's lettuce, and every time I ask if it's marijuana, they tell me, "No, of course not. Marijuana is illegal in China. It's... it's medicine!"
And no, I don't smoke weed, but I look down on those who do. Potheads are some of the dumbest bastards to walk the earth. The punishment for drugs in China is death, but everyone's smoking a bowl in Yunnan, and on every street corner, so...
DrMonkey:
I've been to the Tibetan Plateau part of Yunnan, I haven't seen or smelled any weed (trust me, I know how it smells and it's a strong smell). Maybe in the southern parts of Yunnan ? The climate there is just perfect to grow weed...
Hulk:
Have you ever been to Kunming in particular? If you haven't seen any weed there, I'm calling bullshit / absent-mindedness. Go near the train station where the terrorist attacks happened. Plenty of weed and green paraphernalia.
expatlife26:
Ahh, don't be so judgmental.
Theres tons of burnout potheads, but really if you took pot out the equation you think they'd instantly be vigorous young go-getters?
Being a pothead is a symptom of being kinda lazy and unambitious not the cause.
If I could legally buy some bud to smoke from time to time I totally would, just as me and tons of other productive people sometimes enjoy a drink after work or on the weekend.
dongbeiren:
Yes, plenty of screw ups smoke weed but so do plenty of intelligent, motivated and productive people. Looking down on a whole group of people based on how they choose to relax is pretty unreasonable and judgmental. Do you also look down on people who drink a few beers after a day's work?
expatlife26:
Pot makes people lazy and useless in the same way that beer makes people drunk. It's just temporary. I haven't smoked in years myself but i woudn't mind it being legal.
Somebody that is generally lazy and useless might wanna smoke pot all day, but do you think if their ability to get it dried up they'd suddenly be splitting the atom?
Nah they'd just be doing something else unproductive.
TedDBayer:
Smoking pot doesn't make you a burnout any more than having a few beers once in awhile makes you an alcoholic. Alcohol is definitely a more harmful and destructive.
I am proud citizen of a country which was ruled out as one with highest percentage of weed smokers. And it is not Netherlands. At is not legal yet to sell there, only medical use and homegrown in small qty is allowed
Lots of people who make good music and movies smoke it. It's the reason why Chinese movies and music are such shite despite 5000 years of yadayadayada.
Lord_hanson:
Lots of people who are high make bad music too. I think some of the greats like Bob Marley would have been talented no matter what, whether they smoked grass or were sober.
expatlife26:
What a strange argument to make lord_hanson
hahaha, well think about how great bob marley would have been if only he HADNT smoked weed! He would've been twice the reggae musician!
laowaigentleman:
Do you think that Sergeant Peppers would have been made if John and Paul weren't potheads?
Lord_hanson:
I think they wouldn't have made sgt peppers but they would have made a song of similar quality.
MondoRosa:
This is the answer...definitely inspires creativity. Fine line though as the lazy/sloth thing can become an issue.
I come from Canada, smoking pot is legal in many or all areas (I can't keep up)....
You figure it out.
TedDBayer:
Many people are under the false understanding that marijuana possession has been decriminalized in Canada and that possession of small amounts of marijuana is legal. Currently under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, possession of any quantity of marijuana is illegal.
Yeah, I have high friends places.
thedude:
Dude....it's "I have friends in high places"....but that's ok...cultural....not the same in Scandinavia.
Scandinavian:
no it's not, It's very specifically "high friends in places", having friends in high places would mean I know people in power, which I mostly don't, but I do know people who smoke enough weed to be considered "high"
