BRIEFING

'Keep out!': China sent 6 warnings to a US Navy plane, but the US didn't back down

RYAN PICKRELL

AUG 10, 2018, 9:41 PM

NAVAIR US NavyA US Navy P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance plane.

China sent six warnings to a US Navy plane operating in the South China Sea on Friday, ordering the American crew to “leave immediately and keep out.”The US Navy aircraft stayed the course, insisting that it was within its legal rights. The incident followed a report from the Philippine government revealing that China had been sending out threatening radio queries to foreign ships and planes at an increased frequency.

Chinese forces deployed to the hotly contested South China Sea ordered a US Navy reconnaissance aircraft to “leave immediately” six times Friday, but the pilot stayed the course, refusing to back down.

A US Navy P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance plane flew past China’s garrisons in the Spratly Islands, giving CNN reporters aboard the aircraft a view of Chinese militarization in the region.

Flying over Chinese strongholds on Mischief Reef, Johnson Reef, Fiery Cross Reef, and Subi Reef, CNN spotted “large radar installations, power plants, and runways sturdy enough to carry large military aircraft.” At one outpost, onboard sensors detected 86 vessels, including Chinese Coast Guard ships, which China has been known to use to strong-arm countries with competing claims in the South China Sea.

Lt. Lauren Callen, who led the US Navy crew, said it was “surprising to see airports in the middle of the ocean.”

The Chinese stationed in the area were not exactly kind hosts to the uninvited guests.

Warning the aircraft that it was in Chinese territory – an argument an international arbitration tribunal ruled against two years ago – the Chinese military ordered the US Navy plane to “leave immediately and keep out to avoid any misunderstanding.”

Six warnings were issued, accordingto CNN, and the US Navy responded the same every time.

“I am a sovereign immune US naval aircraft conducting lawful military activities beyond the national airspace of any coastal state,” the crew replied, adding, “In exercising these rights guaranteed by international law, I am operating with due regard for the rights and duties of all states.”

I just wish somebody would hit a button and get this party started. The sooner its over the sooner we can take care of other problems and if China needs to lower the male demographic over the long term, well, I'm quite sure America can provide assistance with this strategic problem. If America needs a more rapid depreciation of some older air craft carriers and China has the actual capability to help, well America can ramp up production of bigger and better replacement cost equipment, sounds like a win, win. pass the popcorn. The emperor recently chastised military officers for running side businesses, perhaps because there pay is a little low. If you piss off the military, trade, tariffs, currency problems, and slowing urbanization, it could make a desperate man trying to maintain power start a party that may need a lot more than popcorn to fix.

Good.  Let's get it on!  WWIII would be good for the world imo.  WWII was good for the US.  Maybe not so good for the losers,,,,,  mainland Europe, Japan, assorted folks caught in the fall-out...

someone has to stop SCS xpansion... It's nonsense,,, but dangerous nonsense if they wanna control shipping thru there.  Like Iran trying to control Straits of Hormuz.

shipping from India, the future factory of the world will change shipping routes all over again anyway making the South China Sea ancient history and if the global warming fairytale happens, we can use the Arctic Ocean as a shipping route saving lots of fossil fuels and distance, Ironically, the environmentalist might get fossil fuel usage cut substantially by there own theory.

A:In my personal experience, teaching certificates have varied in relevance depending on the context and location. Here's a breakdown of each aspect:a) Getting the teaching job: Teaching certificates can certainly enhance your chances of securing a teaching position, especially in formal educational settings such as schools and language institutions. Many employers prefer candidates who have undergone specific training in pedagogy and instructional techniques, which these certificates often provide. However, other factors such as experience, references, and the demand for teachers in a particular area also play significant roles in the hiring process.b) Getting a higher salary than your uncertified competitors: In some cases, holding a teaching certificate can indeed lead to a higher salary compared to uncertified competitors. Many educational institutions have structured salary scales that take into account factors such as level of education, years of experience, and additional certifications. Holding a teaching certificate may place you in a higher salary bracket or make you eligible for certain salary incentives or bonuses. However, this can vary widely depending on the specific policies of the institution or organization.c) Getting promotions: Teaching certificates can be beneficial for career advancement and securing promotions within the field of education. They demonstrate a commitment to professional development and mastery of teaching skills, which are qualities that many employers value when considering candidates for leadership positions or administrative roles. Additionally, some promotions may require specific certifications or qualifications, making holding a teaching certificate essential for advancement in certain cases.Regarding which certificate yields better results, it largely depends on the specific requirements of the job market and the educational context in which you intend to work. For example:A Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) is often highly regarded in formal school settings and can be advantageous for those seeking positions in primary or secondary education.Montessori certification is valuable for individuals interested in working in Montessori schools or implementing Montessori principles in their teaching approach.A Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate is particularly relevant for those seeking to teach English to non-native speakers in international contexts or language schools.Ultimately, the best certificate for you will depend on your career goals, the specific requirements of the positions you're interested in, and the preferences of potential employers in your target job market. It's essential to research the requirements and preferences of employers in your desired field and tailor your qualifications accordingly. -- ruqaiya761
