Haha, yeah that's a reminder why I never bother with the front page...
The gossip thing gave me a good laugh. In my experience Chinese do nothing BUT gossip about the foreigner and a lot of it is made up nonsense.
Stiggs:
Nope, not paranoid at all Hoppy, amused maybe but not paranoid. But thanks for your concern.
ambivalentmace:
A foreigner living inside the head of a chinese colleague rent free, it's a beautiful thing actually.

"You're automatically interesting by the virtue of not being Chinese"
LMBO, you are a monkey in a zoo and people will ask you dumb questions. However, relationships with your colleagues will strictly remain superficial and never get any deeper.
"You are probably excused from office gossip"
Haha, more like "You are definitely excluded from office gossip" just because you are not one of them.
"You'll get great at doodling"
Aka your company claims to be 'international' and wants foreign faces but won't bother to conduct important meetings in English. Actually they will use Standard Mandarin specifically to exclude you. And if you happen to speak it they will switch to the local dialect for the same reason.
"You'll get free Chinese lessons, voluntary or otherwise"
No you won't, people will specifically use their local dialect to make sure that you can't understand anything that they are saying. Sorry but I personally have no desire to learn some dialect spoken by a bunch of peasants in a corner of Hunan.
"Reality check"
More like "OMG we need foreigners but fewer of them want to come now after harassing their peers with boldly racist language and behavior for decades, hurry up tell them how great it is to work in China!"
