I got sent here in Beijing to work as a HR in a big company (won't tell the name).

My work is basically to review candidate's resumes, filter them. One we have a list of candidates, I double check their claims, which consist mainly in calling their ex-employers and checking if they lie in their educations. You'd be surprised the amount of people who claim to have a diploma in a field when it's actually something else.

Once I went through all that, we have a meeting to select the candidate's we'll call for an interview and the battery of tests. During those, we're a bunch who puts psychological pressure on the candidates, to see how they perform under stressful conditions. It's really too bad there are a lot of brilliant people that do amazingly well when there is no pressure, but fail when the going gets hot.

Long story short, I'm not a teacher and I love my job. It has its pros and cons, but so far I love it, although it's quite different compared to when i was in the US, with the cultural gap and everything.

A lot job opportunities here in China. If u can speak Chinese, I guess u can get any job here.
And of course it‘s better to be sent here to work, that means even u don't speak any Chinese u will have a good life.

I know a lot people work in Shanghai like Pustuluterine, I assure u it’s the best way to be working in China as expat.

Edit : Sigh i edited a typo on Danny Zuko - you don't typo Danny Zoko! - and this post, originally between Wenna's two post, was rocketed to the top.

It must be hard for Pustulu to force herself to make people uneasy. I couldn't do that, because I really like to make people comfortable. I can't wait for wacky tuesday tomorrow! Halfway during lunch time, i'll ring a bell, connect my iPod Shuffle to the speakers, put on Summer Nights from Grease and turn the volume up. All employees will have to stand up, do a spin-o-rama and tap their feet to the beat of the intro, then we'll practice the first part of the dance. Pedro, the Mexican IT guy would be Danny Zuko while the Chinese intern would be taking the role of Sandy Olsson. I chose her because during our bonding event at KTV, she was doing the pelvic thrust ok. I really can't wait for wacky tuesday, we're going to have a lot of fun, I'm sure my minions can't wait.

In the end, it will increase their productivity because happy and satisfied employees are the key to moar success. So I do my best aiming at that goal. My predecessor got fired because the financial results were too disappointing, employees were not motivated, it was like working in a morgue. Back at headquarters in Montana, 'Merica, they asked me to take the job in Beijing. As a guy who worked all his way up to the level of director, I know what employees really want and what is needed to be done to give them moar happiness at work, and moar productivity. And my travelng background was perfect, because I can adapt efficiently to a new environment.

I accepted the job but i realized that the Chinese staff had been completely demotivated by my predecessor, so it took some time to repair the damages. They would work for long period of time but had no productivity, they would slack. So I instated the "work hard, party hard" doctrine. They would have moar breaks, work less hours but work harder. When the productivity was going down, i'd ask them to put party hats or red puffy noses to brighten the mood so they work better. I constantly innovated by introducing funny faces contests, joke telling audits and charade guessing lunch activity. I also made the link between the lack of dancing and productivity. Group choreography is the best because it creates bond between everyone.

It really worked because the productivity have risen a lot, they always keep themselves busy when i go and check on them. I knew they liked titles, so I call them my minions, Abanam being the title for the traditional head manager. And they call me Milord to reflect to the long and prosperous Chinese history.

I may be a bit paternalist with them but it's because I want them to be happy.

Someone really make me sick on the website……

And I have no idea what kind of boss will hire someone who doesn't work, only bull shit, show off and being ridiculous.

I thought someone is just arrogant but now I am highly doubt, if someone on this website is from mental hospital or autistic patient, live in his own world, don't understand other people at all……

Technically, Wenna, I am my own boss here in Beijing, As I report only to HQ back in Montana, 'Merica. I am director for the whole area, and don't forget i don't make them happy for free, it's for the sake of productivity. Numbers have been going up since I got shipped, and that pleases the board back in Montana, 'Merica.

I know it may be too innovative, but I believe China's population can have wonderful creativity just waiting to be awakened. When my minions never chatted with each other, always staying in their corner, I realized that they were holding all their creativity and energy. By keeping the group together through dancing and other fun activities, they could exponentially multiply each others' energy to blossom, not only as worker, but as fun loving persons!

Back in 'Merica, the board was really pleased with each trimesters' result, and were even moar happy to know I could keep everyone happy AND productive!

A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
