Q: QQ International 1.3 = death of echinacities?

So I recently upgraded to QQ international 1.3 and I noticed something.

The today window doesn't link to echinacities anymore. If I hadn't regularly read the echinacities tab in the today window in the old version of QQ, i would have never known about this site. You would not have your beloved user, Tapwater.

More importantly, without people finding out about the site, user traffic will decline. Less user traffic means smaller community. Smaller community means loss of advertisers and eventually the death of the site. So does that mean that echinacities is doomed?? DOOMED??

Also, is the admin here Ryan from haohao report?

Not only that, but you cannot access QQ zone directly. Now I need to type the address in the ip box and then log on.

I do not like it when a perfectly good system gets "improved"...

HappyExPat:

Easy to resolve. When I noticed that in the new QQ, I typed the address and went to this site. With a right click, I asked for a shortcut into my desktop, and viola, I do have an icon now that I left click and reach the site.

I found echinacities from IMQQ as well, i might have found it in a google search for something someday, but I have to imagine most people here used QQ and saw this website featured there.

Very true. I also found out about ecc from the old annoying QQ pop up.
The Cat should take note.

I noticed the same thing after I was forced to upgrade by tencent.

I also found this site through QQ International and I am willing to bet that half the people here or more found it the same way.

Without this then people that live here and use QQ and don't know this site are far less likely to find it now. ...a shame.

I really hope not. This place in virtual space keeps a veneer of sanity attached to my self.

eChinacities is included in QQi 1.3 in a bit of a round-a-bout way.  In the same way you can add the Qzone app, you can also find an eChinacities app.  Look under All Apps>Lifestyle...then you can add it to your list of apps.

But yeah, for new users, they'd need to go hunting for it.

It's hardly an upgrade, they took away alot of the features.

i dont believe qq generates that much traffic to ecc. qq can be quite boring at times and slow.

Who uses qq nowadays? Weixin (we chat) all the way.

i can't remember how I found out about this site, pretty sure it wasn't through qq though. I think word of mouth is more important now, I mean if most of the users refer their new expat buddies then the site will grow and grow!

jiayou echinacities!

I just saw this on the "most popular" site.

My current flavor-of-the-month is kind of close to what goes on at QQ.  So I asked him this question as a personal favor.

He told me that a year or so ago this site became too "politlicaly" hot for QQ and that there was too much third-rail type discussions around here that made QQ "uncomfortable" to say the least, i.e., excessive China bashing.  His words not mine.

So he said that the decision was taken to decouple echinacities from QQ and replace it with the China Daily and with the English-language version of the People's Daily.

That's just what my current flavor-of-the-month told me.  I would'nt swear even one mint julep to that, too.

Crazy to think I was only on QQ at that time. How times have changed.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
