We're dicks! We're reckless, arrogant, stupid dicks. And the Film Actors Guild are pussies. And Kim Jong Il is an asshole. Pussies don't like dicks, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes: assholes that just want to shit on everything. Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way. But the only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls. The problem with dicks is: they fuck too much or fuck when it isn't appropriate - and it takes a pussy to show them that. But sometimes, pussies can be so full of shit that they become assholes themselves... because pussies are an inch and half away from ass holes. I don't know much about this crazy, crazy world, but I do know this: If you don't let us fuck this asshole, we're going to have our dicks and pussies all covered in shit!

That is the American, Japanense, Sino relationship in a nutshell. Just replace Kim Jong with Xi and Film Actors Guild with Japan.

You should consider how much symbolism there is in the act of flying into claimed Chinese airspace, but also consider what it means doing it with B-52s. After all these are aircrafts that says at least 3 things.

1) we've got some big flying things that you don't

2) they we're built to destroy the world

3) we've been at this for more than fitty years

I think the US just wants to make sure the Chinese don't get too cocky. (I will refrain from linking to the penis map here) As far as I can tell this is the first flexing of muscle from US side over the current disputes. A reminder that they have plenty of military gear in the area to keep a stalemate.

i am a little wary to post to much about what i think from this situation.  i would like to note that china was asking for this (bombers flying over head) to happen when they announced the extension of the air defense area.  of course America would counter the move.  its chess.  but i wouldn't read too much into all this.  here in china, we will hear non stop how we Americans bully china, in America I'm sure you will hear another story.  just sit back, and enjoy the drama, because that's exactly what this will be, a high stakes soap opera... only on the news...

I am sure the Pentagon engineered this.  Everyone wants to know how developed the strategy and technology of the PLA has become.  And does the PLA actually have the balls to do battle with an old enemy that occupied 30% of China until the Americans nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

Hulk:

The PLA is capable of making multiple simultaneous nation-wide nuclear strikes on U.S. soil. The pentagon is full of retards that don't seem to realize this until it shows up in the Washington Post.

In a nutshell : I put on the red-and-blue 3d glasses, I grab the popcorn and I watch.

US and China are dependent on each other, one giving a market and an industry to the other, one giving investments to an other. They hold each other by the balls. China makes up unilaterally some fly zone that nobody will acknowledge, US make it explicit that it was a unilateral decision, and they are committed to their Pacific policy. Because they can't seat around a table and talk frankly, they negotiate and draw lines by probing each other with this kind of drama. I just hope that I won't be there for the next bout of grass-root nationalist furry involving fire and pitchforks.

Back in 80's, some magazines for kids gave them away. You make red-and-blue glasses yourself http://www.ehow.com/how_8155232_making-redblue-3d-glasses.html

NASA website have 3d pictures from various probes which requires those glasses. Some computer games and scientific visualization software can also take advantage of this too.

China isn't as dependent on the U.S. as we think it is. The European Union, and various other countries in the world, are mass-importing Chinese goods. They could survive without us, but I'm sure they wouldn't want to reduce profits.

Good point. Chinese gouv. definitely do not not rely on only US to buy all the things they produce. In Europe, they seems to get serious about dumping, the commercial balance and all that. In an hypothetical future (I kinda feel it's where it's heading already) where China have a massive overproduction capacity (because US & Europe are not buying from China as much as they used to, also because of Chinese speculation & central planning), people might get seriously angry loosing their job and their flimsy income. Then, hot-heated nationalism & saber-rattling would be the easy card to be played by Chinese gouv. I kinda feel that Japan play that game too, with their never-ending economic stagnation. Those lost rocks in the sea are so useful.

I don't believe the situation is very tense at the moment, and I don't believe the little tension there is will escalate beyond the current rhetoric on the part of China or the U.S. (Japan really has no say in the matter, but that's an old story.)

The unilaterally proclaimed air defense zone is rhetorical and China is bluffing.

The sending in of two U.S. B-52 bombers is also a rhetorical maneuver, a cinematic statement, a photo op.

China doesn't have the military might, capacity or technology (or cojones) to go up against a seasoned warring behemoth such as the U.S.

Anyway, both countries are in bed together, having a blast (pun intended), and will not let this latest news-making trifle interfere with their love affair.

Regardless of whether or not this is a chess game, saber-rattling, or whatever it is, I'd like to encourage all foreigners in China to be on the lookout for people wanting to hate-crime them for being different.

I say all foreigners because in the eyes of so many nutbags, there are only Zhongguo Ren and Waiguoren. Seriously, watch your back. You never know when savage apes go nuts.

Since the introduction of this restricted air zone, both Japan and South Korea have also ignored the no fly restrictions and have had planes in the area.

Japan and South Korea have both said they will continue to do airborne monitoring of the East China Sea, and Japanese airlines are not going to alter flight paths (they first said they would)

China is backing down and feeling the pressure.  On "Dialog" last night the Chinese military said they were not extending there territorial airspace. Then they turned around and said they wound send warplanes if someone didn't do as they were told.  If that is not extending territorial airspace, then what is? The Chinese government is now arguing that "gee mom. everyone else has one, so I want one too. Boo Hoo" My point is that the Government miscalculated due to their perceived military might. They may have to fight in order to save face.  Either way everyone will lose.

My biggest fear in life is war.

I never ever ever want to be caught up in a war, either as a civilian running for cover when the bombs start to fall or a uniformed combatant wielding a weapon with orders to kill another human being. I can't imagine the horror of war other than what I've read, heard, or watched on TV. It must be the worst calamity (even greater than a natural disaster) that has ever befallen humanity. War.

Bertrand Russell said, "War does not determine who is right - only who is left."

(donnie 3857 earlier pretty much said the same thing...)

I was a soldier 20 odd years ago and one day it really hit me that the bloody weapon I was carrying around had only one purpose;  to kill people.  The (overdue) realisation totally shocked me and I pretty much immediately went about getting myself discharged.

Finance will win out in the end.  The USA and China are two very mercantile countries.

America hasn't won a war of any kind nearly 70 years.  China hasn't been involved any kind of a serious conflict for nearly 60 years (not withstanding certain problems with India).

It's all noise.

Englteachted:

Somebody needs to brush up on their Math 1945, 68 years ago. Gulf War, 22 years ago.  Afghan and Iraq, were still wars but against much weaker opponents. The loss has been with the unnecessary attempt to occupy these countries.  But you did say "of any kind". America is best when it comes to conventional warfare, air warfare, and naval warfare. Although I believe there will be no war with China, the type of war that would be fought is in the US's wheel house.
